If the cold has you asking what about global warming...

...you just don't understand the argument that climate change scientists are making.

In a complex system such as our planet's weather patterns, there are various causes and effects. Climate scientist argue that if the overall temperature of the entire planet increases, that change could cause lower temperatures in some parts of the world. This makes sense as a theory.

The reason I don't give the theory any credence is lack of evidence linking human activity with global climate change.

Cold weather does not mean global warming is not happening...it's actually evidence that it is....or could be happening.

The facts in question are what is causing it?, is it normal?, is there anything we can actually do to affect it either way?

Most people think climate equals weather, but I don't listen to the climate forecast on TV. I listen to the weather for-cast. When Trump ridiculed the cold weather in the mid-west, meaning we don't have global warming, he must think the mid-west to be the only land in the world. Australian cities are currently experiencing the warmest temps on record. And where I live in western Idaho, every day this winter has been like an early spring. This is the only time in 25 years that I have not had to plow snow off my driveway.

What was the quote from Jurassic Park? If a butterfly flaps its wings in Peking, it effects the weather patterns of the world or something like that. Chaos theory. How long have we been studying weather formally? Not long compared to how old the planet is. GW is a big deal only because people have learned how to get rich off it.

That's why the liberal elites changed 'global warming' to 'climate change' in the early 2000s.
This allows them to call any temperature changing event as being partially the result of man made activities.
They are now moving toward 'extreme weather' as their next banner.

I don't know any climate scientists. There were none at the university where I studied chemistry. None of my physics or engineering friends know of any either.

I personally think climate science is a branch of political science, not hard science.

My Geography department had some classes on weather...my minor was Geography, so I took a few of them. But a "weather scientist" is sort of like "food cook" isn't it?

Some are working at greasy spoons, some at the Ritz, and a lot of them are just writing or making TV shows about food, hoping to get rich. Doesn't make their food any better.

Ever notice when there is a bad heat wave somewhere, proponents of global warming say "See, told you so!"

But if there is a really cold winter somewhere, and people start questioning global warming, the proponents of global warming call them idiots who don't know the difference between weather and climate, and blah blah blah it's getting colder because it's getting hotter.

Like another poster said, they started calling it climate change so that no matter what the weather does they can still blame it on man made pollution.

I have a cat that predicts how bad our winters will be. If the fur on her back turns dark and coarse, we are in for a bad cold snowy winter.

I've had her almost 7 years and she's been right the past 5 years, that is when I took notice of one winter her coat had changed. So at least in the NY metro area, we are in for a mild winter this year. The past 2 winters, the same thing, although people call a few minor snow storms and a cold week here and there a bad winter. My cat will let you know when we are having one.

I was reading something this morning that talked about the reason the polar vortex is becoming more of a thing these days is due to arctic ice melting. These polar vortex weather patterns used to stay farther north but with the ice melting it messes with wind patterns and now they're dipping farther south. It's a theory that seems to make sense. But I know there are other theories as well.

I think people that say it's real cold so global warming (or climate change or whatever) is a hoax are being too simplistic about a complex issue. Reminds me of liberals trying to talk about guns (usually in relation to gun control) and their understanding of the subject is extremely rudimentary and they say things like nobody needs an AR15 because they fire copkiller bullets. And if you try and correct them they just refuse to think that it makes a difference.

I've seen reasonable arguments on both sides about whether mankind is the cause but I think our climate is definitely changing.

The reason I don't give the theory any credence is lack of evidence linking human activity with global climate change.
The evidence is pretty clear.

Average global temperatures are rising.
The concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere is rising.
We know that CO2 is a greenhouse gas which helps the atmosphere retain heat.
We know that CO2 that had been sequestered in the Earth's crust is released when humans burn fossil fuels.

The dots are connected between human activity and rising temperatures.

I think maybe we would be better off using the time and money wasted studying all this climate bs and maybe pull the billions of tons of plastics and garbage that polute every corner of the planet. I’d venture to say our waste kills more wildlife and destroys more habitat than this global warming. It makes good sense to be better to the environment with or without global warming. We do not need to stop progress to achieve these goals nor do we need fabricated agendas that simply profit those who support the phoney claims made by so called experts.

So, what if there is a serious climate change? Man lived through an ice age that lasted 20 000 years, and did quite well. If he hadn't, we wouldn't have been 7 billion people living here now..
Going around in the world, we see remnants of many collapsed civillizations, some great, others not so great. But man is still around, he adapts and uses his creativity to overcome and build again.

Actually an ice age or global clomate catastrophe could be a good thing...

I see more leftists trying to turn our argument into straw men than I see conservatives making scientifically retarded arguments.

Anyway, the cold doesn’t have me asking anything at all. I like the cold. I also don’t believe I have any effect on the weather, and if I do, it’s WAY less than most of the people who are blaming the future death of the earth on me.

Had a leftist coworker a while back actually tried riding me about global warming or whatever they call it these days. So I challenged them at their own game. We got online and found some carbon footprint measuring site that they were satisfied with. Of course my carbon footprint was significantly smaller than their’s was. So they said “Great! See? That’s all we are asking you all to do!” So I replied “Ok, so now that we know your carbon footprint isn’t good enough, I’m going to start ‘asking’ you to change your behavior, exactly how you’ve been ‘asking’ us to.”

Needless to say, my coworker wasn’t on board with that.

Leftists, the ultimate hypocrites.

Need to figure out if last year was the min. of the current cycle or 2019 is or the min is roughly equally saddled between '08 & '09. This is the information we need as a first step toward verifying a grand solar minimum.

The fact that we are experiencing this abnormal cold weather seems to validate the theory. It will help to get the 3 winter min. behind us. There are several statistical test that can be run once we have the data. Keep in mind the 3 min are Dec., Jan., and Feb., which is why it is a mistake to use our calendar year IMO. It clouds the data.

Using the "Y" intercept of various correlations proves the sun is the dominate source of heat and CO2 et al are minimal. So what solar changes impact the dominate factor.

I will never understand why global warming is argued about all the time. Has climate always changed? Obviously. Have humans changed climate from what it would have been without our existence? Obviously. Improvements can be made to help improve our lives here on earth but those efforts could also be significantly limited by the natural cycle of the earth.
