There is a local gun shop that has the following models new in box.

Bulgarian SSR85C2 (no muzzle brake) $849.95
Arsenal SLR107F w/side folding stock $1299.95
Zastava Yugo w/under folding stock M70 $899.95

Which one is the best? Is it over priced? Thanks guys! (I am researching these on the web too, but first hand knowledge from you guys is better)

Been a user of that platform for a couple decades. I've owned quite a few varieties, makes, models and flavors.

If you have the money, buy the Arsenal.

The Yugo would be the runner up.

A lot of the Century imports are NOT being put together worth a darn. I've owned a few of them- canted gas blocks and front sight assembly, improper fit in the mag well that can lead to jams (you KNOW you got a POS AK if it jams! :D:

We are down to all Chinese makes, mostly Polytechs.

Avoid the home brews at all costs. Contrary to popular belief you CAN screw up an AK. I looked at one at a show in Jax a while back and the kid had forgot to cut both indents in the receiver- you could not get the bolt out of the gun:xeye:

Check the name on the side of the receiver. If there is NO name it's certainly a home brew.

There IS fixes to most of the common problems, and back when you could occasionally pick up a beater for $250. it was fun to work on your armorer skills a bit. At today's prices, your best buying a decent one to begin with.

Good luck!

They seem way over priced to me. I've had a few Romanian WASR-10's and never had a problem with them. I think you can still get them from J&G sales for less tha $600, but with the obama boom they might be all gone.

BTW, I've never seen a folding AK stock that provided a good cheek weld, or a solid hinge that didn't wiggle. Go with an M4 style collapsible from TAMCO.

For that matter I've never seen a folding stock on any weapon that didn't at least develop a wiggle in the hinge.

I did wait too long. I had no idea about all this mess up until a week ago. I went back to the shop and they had sold all three. The guy even told me that they would probably be gone by the end of the day. I am really sad right now.

How's that go? He who hesitates is lost"

If the least you can afford or find works properly buy it now, get a few extra mags and at least 2000 rounds. Try it out with a few pops on each mag to be certain they feed well and don't waste anymore ammo... there is none to spare.

Its not entirely too late. You're too late to get a decent price for sure but if you're diligent you can still find one. I'm in mid tn and there are two WASR-10's at two different pawn shops here albeit they are both asking between $650-$799. I was also just in Lilburn outside of Atlanta and saw two at a pawn shop there and they were asking around $600 for them. You'll certainly pay more but scour the pawn shops and you'll find something. I will also add that the two here in TN have been for sale at those prices for about 2 months and haven't gotten any bites. I suspect $500-600 cash would have them out the door. I'd hit the local pawn shops with cash and maybe a decent handgun to trade.

This is wisdom. Hear it and be prepared to bend over and take it. Otherwise the lever guns in .357 or the bolt style military that take strippers are good.

A shotgun that holds more than 5 rounds is equally as good.:thumb:

Try ksl.com it’s a Utah classified for rifles, pistols, ammunition, rifle parts, anything.......

Check all the gun forums for sale forums. I just bought a preban Polytech rpk for 500.00. Deffinatly check out a Saiga, I have two and like them both very much. You can still find them on Gunbroker for around 3-4 hundred, add another hundred for conversion parts, and you're set. Make sure you do the mag conversion on them as the mags for them are pricey.

Wasn't aware that "Polytech" made an RPK? You sure you don't mean an NHM91? I can see getting one of those for $500. Kinda resembles an RPK
