At the technology levels of today supersonic+ travel is too expensive. Cost killed the Concorde. There's been a trend for aviation companies to go toward more seats like with Airbus's A380 or better comfort/efficiency with Boeing's 787.

Way too expensive and no one wants sonic booms over their home. The only way it is even justifiable is for flying half way around the world. Perhaps if they find some novel technology then it might be cheaper than 23 hours on a jumbo jet.

This one does not create that type of sonic boom.

Yup, sure would be pricey at first but who knows if it actually saves money if it is developed. After all, a lot more trips can be made with a plane that fast.

And yea, the trend is to cram people into seats made for midgets. Ryanair even wants to have stand-up seats because that way they could get even more people in!

Not a snowball's chance in hell. Regulatory compliance and fear-mongering from the left (what if terrorists hijack that!?) will keep it from ever becoming a reality.

So I welcome this Mach 4 passenger plane and hope it will be in production very soon!
Dont hold your breath, your link says the first commercial tickets will be sold in about 40 years.

It still won't make anyone happy. Look at us. A trip from the East coast to Europe used to take months with lots of burials at sea along the way. Now eight hours with little danger and only mild discomfort is too much. So this plane will make it in two hours? We'll complain that it can't do it in one. People aren't designed to be happy.

Then we get something that will do it in 1 hour.

Yeah, regular plane tickets are expensive enough. If there's a choice between cheaper and faster, people will choose cheaper most of the time. You can already get somewhere much faster...by hiring a private jet. And yet for some reason most people take Southwest or United. Wonder why that is?

In 40 years, we'll still be flying around in the same busted ass planes as today.
Unfortunately. This was an industry that, on the whole, has lost money since its founding and was never intended to operate in a world of 100 dollar a barrel oil. Everything else that can be cut has been cut and eventually we will no longer be able to afford air travel given current trends - even if the S doesn't HTF.
