It is amazing how misinformation so often takes precedence over the truth in our society. But then, considering that our entire public education system is run by the government, and most of the media is just a mouthpiece for them, that should come as no surprise!
I poached this from another thread, (hope you don't mind parnelli) because this is exactly what I was thinking this past weekend. I don't mean to sound pessimistic or defeatist but in reality we have all but lost the war for our liberties our values, traditions and culture. It's all been replaced with PC drivel.

I don't know when the government took control of the schools but that was the biggest blow to our nation. The lack of real education is shameful. There is very little that is taught in today's or yesterdays classrooms that has any real merit. It's mostly agenda driven and run by unions and bureaucrats. It was a calculated move by the left. Kruschev said "communism would take the US without firing a shot".

Communism has metamorphosed with Marxism, socialism and other ideologies into a rather imposing force. It is entrenched into the very fabric of this society to the point that most people don't realize or question it when it's blatantly obvious and counter to what this country was founded upon. If this process is to be halted and the ship righted it will take a couple generations, if at all. I'm not waving a white flag and will not go down without a fight but lets face it people. It's looking pretty dark with some big storm clouds overhead.

The media is complicit and corrupt and all too willing to feed at the trough. Journalists are a by-product of the same system. They feed off each other and it's not too far from state run media. They tell you what they want you to know. Fluff up the rest to keep everyone distracted. They don't investigate anymore, unless it's something from the right. They idolize the left and pop culture. The news and entertainment media and the democrats are in bed together. The left tries to strip us of our liberties while the media smiles and tells us that it's all for the greater good.

"Texas schools board rewrites US history with lessons promoting God and guns
Published on 05-17-2010 Email To Friend Print Version

Source: Guardian

Cynthia Dunbar does not have a high regard for her local schools. She has called them unconstitutional, tyrannical and tools of perversion. The conservative Texas lawyer has even likened sending children to her state's schools to "throwing them in to the enemy's flames". Her hostility runs so deep that she educated her own offspring at home and at private Christian establishments.

Now Dunbar is on the brink of fulfilling a promise to change all that, or at least point Texas schools toward salvation. She is one of a clutch of Christian evangelists and social conservatives who have grasped control of the state's education board. This week they are expected to force through a new curriculum that is likely to shift what millions of American schoolchildren far beyond Texas learn about their history.

The board is to vote on a sweeping purge of alleged liberal bias in Texas school textbooks in favour of what Dunbar says really matters: a belief in America as a nation chosen by God as a beacon to the world, and free enterprise as the cornerstone of liberty and democracy.

"We are fighting for our children's education and our nation's future," Dunbar said. "In Texas we have certain statutory obligations to promote patriotism and to promote the free enterprise system. There seems to have been a move away from a patriotic ideology. There seems to be a denial that this was a nation founded under God. We had to go back and make some corrections.""

Some changes certainly need to be made, but the above is most certainly not what is needed.

Christianity and other religions certainly have a place in our school system, and that place is called Theology class, and its an elective.

What we need to do is stop passing students who don't succeed and aren't trying just so a school system can get more federal funding. If you fail a class, you should have to take it over again. Too stupid or lazy to graduate high school? Tough cookies, life is a pain in the ass sometimes, pick up a broom and start sweeping floors or flipping burger's and don't complain. I am by no means a genius, but I managed to graduate high school and obtain a bachelors degree, its not that hard if you try.

EDUCATION IS IN THE HOME......not school.
That has more truth to it than it appears. Whether you send your kids to a public school or not there is still so much that needs to be taught in the home. Sadly many parents, far too many, are failing to do this.

The point I wanted to make originally was that so few children are taught anything of any real worth or value. Like how to build things or learn a trade, or even how to critically think about things. They are all groomed for a white collar business job that really doesn't have any lasting firmness. Nothing concrete to fall back on if/when things turn sour.

TEXAS did it!
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/37271857/ns/us_news-life/?GT1=43001

"In final edits leading up to the vote, conservatives rejected language to modernize the classification of historic periods to B.C.E. and C.E. from the traditional B.C. and A.D. They also required that public school students in Texas evaluate efforts by global organizations such as the United Nations to undermine U.S. sovereignty.

McLeroy offered the amendment on U.S. sovereignty, saying international organizations threatened individual liberty and freedom.

'Constitutional republic'
During the monthslong process of creating the guidelines, conservatives successfully strengthened the requirements on teaching the Judeo-Christian influences of America's Founding Fathers and attempted to water down rationale for the separation of church and state.

The standards will refer to the U.S. government as a "constitutional republic," rather than "democratic," and students will be required to study the decline in the value of the U.S. dollar, including the abandonment of the gold standard.

Conservatives say the Texas history curriculum has been unfairly skewed to the left after years of Democrats controlling the board."
