I have never stroped a knife before and want to try it.

What do I need to know?

I have some leather left over from another project, can I use any type of leather? Do I need a compound or can I just use the leather. From what I understand your suppose to strop the blade in the opposite direction from sharpening.

This is all new to me any help is apprecated:eek::

Thanks

I use the inside of my belt to strop,i put one foot on one end and hold the other in my hand this way i keep the belt tight,I strop 50 times so your talking 25 per side and this works fine for me.

Its the most simple IMHO, to just use your belt in the field. I've chosen my belt to have no stitching through it, and be one solid piece of leather. In the field I drag the edge on the belt. At home, I have an old betl I've cut and put "Metal Glo" on it, this brings the knife to a RAZORS edge.

A video on how to sharpen your knife, stropping is in this. I appoligize for all the whetstone sharpening;
