I predict the consensus to be that you can never have enough ammo...thats kinda how I live...

EDIT: sorry, I didn't see the operative word "carry"... yeah, that changes things a bit...

Carry Where?
carry from my location to 100miles away to my bug out location .
Probably should have a stash at your BOL and not have to carry so much. Depends on if you are actually carrying it or taking another mode of transportation.

i dont see how stashing it at my location is the best idea because you never know if that place will be safe even if it is in the middle of no where ..what good is your equip if its under water or on fire ..? so i belive carrying everything i need is the only way to know that i will ave my items
Depends on how bad of a shot you are.

Just a suggestion. So do you not keep and supplies at the BOL? How do you plan to carry all the food and water and ammo needed for an extended stay.
I have a BOL with two small caches buried on the property.

If youre bugging out (assuming a vehicle is in the plan) I would say no less than 1000 rounds for the rifle and 500 for the 9mm. If you have an established BOL, then theres nothing wrong with stashing some there, in which case I would actually double, if not triple the load.

If youre stashing ammo there I would still keep at least 600 rifle and 100 pistol for the trip. That can be carried in a pack if push comes to shove, though it will be heavy and would definitely help to have someone to share the load.

A lot of it depends on what kind of areas you will be traveling through to get to the BOL. If its mostly quiet back roads avoiding larger towns you my can downsize a little, but if youre having to go near large cities and towns I would go with as much as I could carry. No telling what you may run into on the way.

However, if you can afford it theres no such thing as enough. Just trying to live on the land for a year could easily run you well beyond 1000 rounds. Might even consider a .22 rifle to keep at the BOL. May come in handy for small game that the 7.62 would probably blow apart.

my BOL has many guns mostly shotguns and deer rifles also the rout i plan to take has alot of rivers and small creeks along the way so no need to carry alot of water also i can carry some mountian house food .the ones that feed 2 people i an be there in 2 hours normal driving but if i cant drivei will pack enough food for 5 days .but i plan on catching pan fish along the way.....
i have very limited gun experience but am a eagle scout and i fish once a week

well the thing is you may not beable to fish. there just might not be time for it. its really hard to say how much you will need. if it takes 5 days to walk there your going to need 8-10 days worth of food just in case you cant go straight through and you have to go around a small town or something. if you can carry your rifle then i would have around 500-800 rounds the pistol i would just fill 3 mags (45 rounds)and have the rest at your BoL.once out of the city i would avoid all man made structures the main idea would be not to be seen and avoid all possable contact.if your succesful you will never be seen and you will never fire 1 shot and when your packing food pack some food that doesnt need to be cooked you may be in a situation to where you cant have a fire so you cant cook.
thanks alot eveyone..so far i am gld i joined a fourm..i have just started to get ready .and i understand the BOL storage idea better .even though i dont aggree with it 100% because wo is to say anyones BOL is gonna be safe. so i guess when i get my pack fully built i will kno how much it weighs...but i guess i hope to be able to drive to my location
You're a big dude. I personally would carry around 300 rds of rifle ammo in mags and probably 50 rds of pistol. But I ain't your size, plus I'll be wearing body armor and my kit on my back. So, I prefer to travel a bit lighter on ammo and make the rounds count...
yea 6 foot 280 is kinda big but i smoke a pack a day but i can still run pretty good but ot very long lol but i plan on etting into shape veryy soon ..but 300 rifle rounds and maybe 100 pistol rounds seams good thanks but i might not be the shot you are but again thanks..joining this fourum is a great idea

As much as you can carry but still hide if you need to. Why not have ammo at your BOL?
I was envisioning you with a house or cabin of some sort that some equipment could be stored in. If thats not available I definitely wouldnt be stashing food and ammo out in the elements. Theres just too many unknowns for that to be a practical.
Some people have posted other threads about caches buried in plastic drums, but I dont think I would go through the expense of burying food and ammo 100 miles away. Not to say that it couldnt be done but it would definitely be more costly.

I like Cryptkeeprs idea up there, the only thing I would change is that I would carry a little more than 3 mags for the pistol, maybe 3 full mags with enough ammo to fill them each again.
because what if your bug out location isnot safe....it could be on fire or under water or inhabeted by some one else ..so i realy belive bug out location are good bug why keep stuff there ......btw my bol is where i grew up and my family lives but whats to say that it wont be wipped out ? say you have 200 rounds and i decided to carry 500 .and we can both shootdecent ..who has the better chance ? BOL are overrated i myself have 3 locations i can go and i am nont gonna store anyting on anyof them ..what if i just cant get there saftly ?
