10 more years? 20? Maybe a new shipment of 5,000 nagants will come in from russia next year?
There are some valid points - for me, price was definitely one of the factors, but I still like mine as collectible WWII value. They're just pretty cool to see how they were built, under what circumstances, etc. I have a self-made P/U sniper as well as a basic 91/30, both of which shoot very well. Are there "better" rifles these days? Yes, but no one ever came up to my bench while shooting and said "WHOA, cool (Ruger American base model)! Can I shoot it?" Because the PU does draw some heads. They will become collectors. I say this because there are a lot of people who miss them dearly, despite the fact that they're NOT GOOD RIFLES. Their virtue (singular) was price.
That virtue is gone and people still want them.
I don't get it. Sentimental value? Its not a good deal on a rifle anymore. There are better guns for cheaper that are made in the U.S for a lower price that shoot better ammo that is more available.
What I'd like to do is -- put you about 200 yrds. down range with a target pinned to your chest -- I'll bet by the time I walk the 200 yards back to you -- you'll change your mindthey're NOT GOOD RIFLES
Unless we get over the legal and other issues that would keep military M4s and M16s off the civilian market, we have no more large supplies of milsurp rifles waiting for us.I think the sweet spot for milsurp is over period.
I beg to differ. The 91-30 is very accurate. The one I got about 10+ years ago with sniper bent bolt and post-WW II Soviet scope is dead on after I replaced the Soviet scope with a modern U.S. made one....they're NOT GOOD RIFLES. Their virtue (singular) was price.

From my time here -- Moist Nuggets are like Porsche's and Jeep's -- very little middle of the road feeling's --I beg to differ. The 91-30 is very accurate. I don't have the patience for sniper long distance shooting (I prefer bang, bang with my AKs lol). But, my son loves that rifle. I bought it for him when he was in his early/mid-teens and he would spent hours shooting at long distance targets in the field and checking his groupings with his spotter scope. He actually did very well with the Russian scope. I could never figure out how the Red Army snipers killed so many Nazis using that scope.
Just the opposite of our two 91-30s are the two M44s. The M44s are not that accurate. However, if I'm attacked and miss I can skewer my assailant with the fold out spike bayonet!!! lol
