When trying to solve a difficult problem, one solution is to brain storm how to make the problem worse. We write down ideas how to make the issue worse, then figure out the opposite solution to each suggestion. The opposite solution being a proposed answer.

This type of tool is used in forms of manufacturing problem solving such as Six Sigma.

Besides running zombies, how can the Coronavirus situation get worse?

I feel the absolute worst thing that can happen right now is a breakdown in the food supply chain. Hopefully, the millions of people who are being laid off will be able to sign up for food stamps, but that requires food to be in the stores.

Second worse thing is for Coronavirus to turn into a slow burn, as in very slow burn. Rather than the infection traveling through groups so fast it burns itself out, it slowly, very slowly works its way through.

Third worse thing, it continues to mutate so we never find a vaccine or treatment. People who were infected once can be reinfected.

Fourth, damage to the economy is so bad it takes years, maybe even a decade to recover.

If Murphy shows up to lend a hand. And the SOB always does.

My concerns right now are attrition of the medical professionals due to infection, exhaustion from workload, whatever...noone can run at a sprint for long. If the runup of the virus coincides with a general rundown in endurance of the medical community.. Just pray that doesnt happen.

Another will be how long society holds their **** together. Noone wants that to unzip. At all. How long supply chains can hold and the govt can keep pulling rabbits out of the hat to keep that at bay...is anyones guess. I remain hopeful but honestly I dont see another 2 months worth simply being there to pull out of that bag of magic tricks.

The food supply issue weighs heavily on my mind too. Me and mine would be ok for some time, but those around me? Not so sure.
It weighs on my mind, too. I will be fine for at least two years - unless I take somebody into my house, of course, which is a possibility, and then we're talking just one year or so.

And, the self-defense issue weighs heavily on my mind because the food-supply issue weighs heavily on my mind.

And the mutation thing is something I've also thought about.

Big problem I see, outside of some huge concerns already listed, would be a second wave this Fall, equal to or worse than this one. There are ramblings of this nature all the way up into the CDC itself. This would happen right when people are getting complacent again and the economy still severely weakened.

The chicoms note that two idiot USN captains needed hooker leave in a pandemic infested ports and thus put the ONLY two carriers in the Pacific out of action. They decided that NOW is the time to turn their legions of hackers loose and to shoot 3x HEMP over CONUS.

Bad actors take advantage of the US becoming preoccupied with COVID-19. This includes ensuring the safety of US vessels outside of the US and embassies. The northern/southern border gets overrun. The territorial integrity of the US is threatened. Local bad actors commit crime. Organized crime enlarges their territory and joins with outside bad actors. Or other scenarios in '24'.

China cuts off the sale of pharmaceuticals and PPE. Or sells known bad pharmaceuticals and PPE. Or taints imported medical supplies even more knowing it's that or nothing. Or dumps the dollar.

State and local governments fight against the Trump Administration in the administering of aid and bad mouth current efforts.

Economy of effort, with maximum result.

Yeah, hacking the grid too.

Food shortages are a symptom, not a core cause.

The cause is the problem - massive deaths resulting in under-staffed factories, plants, farms, distribution, utilities, etc.

Massive amount of deaths means this virus just keeps on going - circles back, infecting more every time and re-infecting those previously recovered.

We'll know by Sep-Oct.

If people continue to ignore the subtle hints from their local governments to stay home is my fear.

Kansas put a stay at home order in effect Monday but with no teeth. No papers required and no check points or anything. Most government institutions are closed but I see plenty of people at the bait shop, dollar store, walmart, etc...

Not that I want totalitarian rule or anything but stay home unless it's absolutely necessary until this thing runs its course.

Every day the democrat dictators are finding a way to make things worse. Right now they are telling doctors that they cannot prescribe medications the doctors believe help's their patients.

VERY concerned about this , MTS.

Whether it was planned this way, or some rogue nation (read: China) just decides to take advantage of our weakened state, it's a real threat.

I didn't spend too many brain cells on this until we decided to pull a Carrier out of commission. We have 11, so unexpectedly removing a couple compromises our ability to project power.

And this damn virus is just getting started.

We'll everything gets locked down people are trapped in their homes.. issues like fires, arson, forest fires like seen in australia and brazil, california needing evaculation orders, floods, hurricanes .. godzilla.

Natural disasters in general could add to the problem by displacing people.

Aside from that MUTATIONS that are negative ...

the essential work force getting attritioned off over time.

lack of new people to finishing program to replace aged out people.

An extended period of large numbers of people being off of work either due to sheltering or illness leading to large scale unemployment, and a collapse of social programs, and the health care system. re the new millennium depression

Enter terror or war acts, further bio terrorism by people saving the virus and spreading it selectively after quarantine is lifted indefinitely to continue to cause outbreaks in the US

oh and this happening around the world shutting down the global system causing the global economy to collapse and rebuild on a 13th century framework.

The more this goes on though the more I think people are viewing this as a short term problem that will last until the the end of August at most.

At the end of the day no more common cold infections.

Just think of it a world with no more common cold.

Attack/shooting war.

Wouldn’t put it past China to attempt a first strike or HEMP, as they see the US recovering after the curve.

It’s most likely (IMO) that incentives will be made to manufacturing to get jobs back in CONUS on a fast track.

That would cut China out of the loop. Good.

Likely similar goings on internationally. So China MIGHT just say “screw everybody”...
