It's a list of the most useful skills in starting a self sufficient community post OPAW.

You don't necessarily have everyone these skills in your group, circle of friends or family, so you put the name of someone who does that, so you can locate them quickly and early in the sceanrio to ask if they will cooperate. Saves time getting organized.

the last segment are personal skills someone can acquire withuot too much resources or having to change careers.

I guess I don't know what was so confusing about the original post you made. It's not like you posted the list on a Musclecars forum. Odd. :)

I don't agree with all of your rankings (IMO, a surgeon would be better to have than a leather worker, especially in a hostile SHTF society), but it seems to be a pretty exhaustive list.

Ahhh, but what KIND of teacher? :)

Well in a self sufficient community, I would think that families still want their children to be able to read and write..

I think in a community such as that, "school" would be non-traditional, but practical.

Perhaps a visiting teacher

or

definately a different school time table....school would need to revolve around planting and harvest times.

Just thoughts from a former public school teacher who is now enjoying teaching her children at home.

School used to revolve around planting and harvest.

Spring Break, formerly more correctly known as Easter vacation, was planting time in the Northeast where many of our earliest settlers and first public schools ocurred.

Summer vacation from school is an agrarian Principal, In the SOuthern hemisphere it is often reversed, although some countries keep a Northern hemisphere calendat due to where their settlers came from.

Teacher and child care would be both on a list that is used to form a self sufficient community. You wold have to add apprenticeships to it, and teachers could be blacksmiths and other trades as well. Education does not have the same value if it does not teach you how to do something or make something in a lower technology Society.

8th grade public education originally only had two purposes; teaching enough reading to read the Bible or hand bill (newspaper ad); and ciphering (arithmetic) enough to tally an account book or bill.

Knowledge for recreation sake, such as Philosophistry, or the Art of Brotherly lying; and other forms of mental masturbation were viewed as forms of diminution, not admirable.
