ok im getting back into PSC work and need to pick up a few things required for the job. problem is ive never needed to buy this stuff before on my own, it was always issued. the things i need info for are;

plate carrier and SAPI plates(L), carrier must be able to be hidden by a sport coat or suit jacket so nothing too crazy.

high lumen flashlight, small pocket sized if possible.

underarm holster for a glock 19, material not important but due to the enviroment id like to not have leather.

so far thats all i need to pick up ASAP, but this could get bigger.

Tactical Tailor makes the best plate carriers I've seen, but SAPI plate type body armor is going to be bulky under any type of coat. You may be forced to go with soft armor. SAPI plates are just too thick to conceal easily, no matter the type of carrier.

You're not going to be able to conceal SAPI plates unless you're wearing a winter coat or something. You're going to have to go to soft armor.

Fenix makes good flashlights for a reasonable price but so do a lot of others.

I use leather in my holsters whenever possible but can't for my drop-down or chest setup.

Check out police uniform stores and see what they have. You may be able to order through them or at least put them on for sizing.

I made a lot of uncessary purchases. I got so much stuff - all a waste. I have found that nothing beats creativity and flea markets. I was told by a knowledgeable person that with a little goat thinking it was amazing what can be done. Hope this helps.

Ok. Been wrapped up in class this week but it worked because I am now G certified at the top of my class. Shot a 479/480.

I've picked up the light and it was a better deal than I knew. The one I got is a cheapo(supposedly, $40 isn't cheap for a flashlight) LED. After buying it I found out it has the option of 3 different output levels up to 220 lumens and can focus the beam quite a bit.

Still looking for a plate carrier but after talking with a few prospective employers its common to have a level IIIA vest with the ability to hold SAPI plates if the potential threat is there.

Why wouldn't you know this stuff? I read your info and it sounds like you are suggesting you are some sort of Special Operations soldier, but you don't know about the most basic equipment issues. I smell a poser and if I find out you are some REMF posing as something else, I will out your a$$ to this whole forum.

first of all, ive already listed that i am not in fact some special operations soldier. how can you "out" someone who has hid nothing you can out? secondly, the gear im looking into would not be anything near G.I gear since none of what i need is designed to be worn on the outside of clothing. i may end up getting a vest further on that is, but as i have stated im looking for a SAPI vest that can be easily hidden under a suit coat. all the gear i need has to be easily hidden by someone wearing a suit, or cargo pants and polo's to a lesser extent. if i wanted to use the gear i already know, i wouldnt be asking questions. but the gear i already know would not be suitable for what i need.

I am a GI and I wear armor concealed in my clothing sometimes depending on the mission. I wouldn't be wearing cargo pants and a polo though because you'd might as well just wear the armor on the outside if you look like you're on a PSD.

And...
Several of us have already told you, SAPI plates are going to show under anything short of a bulky winter parka. Doesn't matter if you take them out of a carrier and duct tape them directly to your chest and back. You say you don't want to use GI gear, but you want to use GI style plates. Forget SAPI plates and look for police type vests. That's your ONLY option if you want to conceal body armor.

^^Word

You have to balance full concealment and full protection. You can't have both.

Some of the responses in this thread seem to have a lot of info. in them but in reality are unimformed. True you cannot in most cases wear full rifle plates with soft armor in a manner that allows you to conceal it completely. You can however wear them and conceal them from casual observation. That is the key that most in this thread seem to be missing. I dress this way at work and yes you can tell I am wearing something under my shirt/coat. If you are just passing by or walking across the street then you would most likely not notice. I just look like a fat guy. Bottom line is that NO, it will not conceal completely but YES it will conceal somewhat so that you do not leave a large signature.

yeah, unfortunatly thats the problem i keep running into with this job. the client wants guards that dont look like guards, but have all the gear and capabilities of a SWAT team.
Oh I also forgot to list these as viable options too.

Its not SAPI but its 3A and looks like a normal vest.
