i myself also like the lights that take AA batteries, since too many good lights take 123 batteries which are hard to find cheaply.
Fenix has been mentioned, and I like them too.

A couple things to consider- don't restrict yourself to a handheld light.
honestly, if you're in the dark trying to put up a tent or something that requires hands , you need a headlamp.
or if you're in your tent, or cave or whatever, and you want some light, you want something that can stand and maybe give a bit of area light.
food for thought- practical is good.
