Help me choose the best premium AR-15

I am no stranger to the AR-15. I own a handful. I have a Rock River Arms LAR15, and 6 or so PSA AR's in several calibers. I love my PSA's, as I love my RRA. The RRA has a full aluminum handgaurd, and is just to heavy. I am at a point that I want a premium, well built AR for my primary battle rifle that I can trust with my life. I am pretty well boiled down to Daniel Defense or Knights Armament. Maybe even a SCAR. What are your thoughts, especially those who already own one of these rifles.

I will add my other bases are already well covered, shotgun, pistol, bolt, ect.

Fwiw...I like Sig. Well built. "Reasonably" priced. Excellent gas tuning system.

516 Patrol for me...
But higher end units are certainly available.

Not interested in building your own?
Aero upper and lower, with high end drop in trigger, along with a precision barrel. It will shoot and look as good, or better then most “high end” rifles.

Or a billet upper and lower pair.

So, you can't go wrong with Sons of Liberty Gun Works or Bravo Company Manufacturing. They are both rifles that you can count on. Daniel defense makes awesome tools too. My personal favorite is Lewis Machine and Tool. They actually make parts with and for knights armament in addition to supplying complete rifles to a number of different countries including the UK. They are a no nonsense company that makes proven hardware, I have personal experience with both their large frame and small frame platforms.

2 DD rifles here
DDM4 V7 PRO for fun and a M4A1 RIII for work

Pretty much sewing machines. Only thing nicer I have personal experience with is one of my teammates Noveske. But any properly set up billet unit is the next level for sure

What is the purpose of said rifle? Home defense? Urban patrol? Shooting 600 yards across a field?

I’m not a Knights fanboy. Nothing against them, just overpriced, IMO. Scar? No way. That thing needs too many upgrades for a rifle that should cost half as much.

Me, for HD or neighborhood patrol, I’d build an SBR, with a 11.5” barrel in 5.56 or a 10.5” .300BO if you want to go that route. Put a lightweight barrel on it, sling, flashlight and a prism optic. It would have to have a nice, crisp 3-3.5lb trigger and a thin handguard. Call it good and shoot it. Add a suppressor if you really want it.
Knights or DD are good to go. So are others such as BCM, LMT, etc....

Can't go wrong with KAC, PWS, MR556 or LMT. They're all top tier.

Guess it depends if you wanna go DI or piston.

I had John "NOVESKE" build three for me. John has died, I don't even know if NOVESKE ARMS is still building quality Firearms. They are not cheap, or they were not cheap.

I paid (on average) $2,000. each. A long-time gun store in Anchorage, hand just moved to a bigger store location, and were promoting it by offering NO-FEE on consignment firearms. So I took one in and put it on consignment. Each of the salesmen looked it over, said, "nice". I was busy but noticed the salesmen were each on the phone, in seperate locations in the shop. (They were calling friends and special customers). While I was finishing paper work, a guy walked in and asked who ever called him, "where is it". Asked if he could look at it, I shrugged, his salesman looked me in the eye, picked it up and handed it to him, He said, "nice, let me think a minute". Another man walked up, looking at whay others were interested in, he flaged his favorite salesman over and asked if he could see it. The first guy was watching closely, there was energy in the environment. The second guy, said, "NICE, I'll take it". The first guy walked over, said something to the second guy. (I later learned they were friends and both doctors). Everyone was looking at me, my friend said, it is sold. He was addressing everyone.

I had just finished putting it on FREE consignment, for $2,995.00

I also have the LAR-15. What I like even more is my Saint. You get a lot for your money, unless you really want to pay two grand for an AR. Now they have the Saint Victor Folder. Side folding stock. Me like.

LWRC.

Top quality and almost all models have spiral fluted barrels to aid cooling.

Ill vote JP enterprises. Ive shot alot of high end ar15s and usually dont see anything more then diminishing returns from the price.

When i shot a JP rifle (scr-11) like 3 years ago i literally thought "huh, thats noticeably better" still crazy pricey imho. But i distinctly remember how nice that rifle was...

I like using JP Enterprises gas blocks and bolts on builds.
I don’t own a premium but if I were in the market for one it’d be either a Radian, BCM, Geissele or DD

It will be general use. Training and for what we all hope never happens. In my area I anticipate typical urban distances of 40 to 100 yards, possibly out to 300. I already have a 10.5" 5.56, and a 11.5" 300 black, suppressed. I don't prefer the shorter barrels. They are handy, but try shooting one in a enclosed area. I don't want to be deaf and blind in a gunfight. Not to mention the significant loss in volocity. I would prefer to buy a proven factory model over building.
