i'm starting this thread for all of us addicts here on the board. be it drugs, alcohol, nicotine(all forms). you name it and you can find support here. i'm always willing to lend a hand, or an ear.

let me start out by telling you alittle about myself. for those of you who havent heard my story. my name is vincent and I AM AN ADDICT. i quit using drugs in 95, alcohol in 99, and i quit smoking just 3 months ago. healing is an on going process that never ends. i wake up each day and i look at my family and i think, without sobriety i would have none of this. without my health i will be unable to keep any of this. they are my rock, and i am thankful every minute of everyday for them.

i'm a meth junkie, a drug addict, an alcoholic, a smoker, and a dipper. i have been involved with the N/A program since febuary 3rd 1999. i've attended A/A groups when i couldnt find an N/A meeting. we addicts need to stick together. its says right in the slogan."MY GRATITUDE SPEAKS, WHEN I CARE AND WHEN I SHARE WITH OTHERS." i am here to lend support to anyperson who wants to clean up any or all parts of their life. no judgement. this board is already anonomous so that is not a concern.

please feel free to join me here anytime you want support, or you want to support others. if you have something you want to get off your chest, or you want to ask a question.this thread is for addicts, but family members of addicts are welcome, as are friens of addicts. our addiction affects all around us, and we are lucky to have anyone in our lives to care enough that they would seek out information about our problem.

while the "rooms of bill' do say you need to find "god", they dont preach religion. i find this very important. they also use the term "higher power" very often. this is a term i like. i wont ask you not to speak of religion, but i will ask you not to preach because i dont want to turn this into a religious issue. one of the most important things i learned in the rooms was this. "RELIGION IS FOR THOSE AFRAID OF HELL, SPIRITUALITY IS FOR THOSE WHO HAVE LIVED THROUGH IT." we as addicts, be it alcohol, cigarettes, or drugs have lived through some form of hell.

for many people sobriety is a major concern in everyday life, and in a post SHTF world. so this is a very important and very personal issue to many.

in closing of this invitation for you to join me i ask this. no flaming, no trolls, and no disrespect. if you have an issue with any of these PM me and i will be happy to discuss it with you.

take it easy, and remember to take it one day at a time.
thanx-vincent

And yes. I do know.

I deleted the rest.

All I can say is unless your willing to give such a person a reason to not want to die then hard as it is there's little you can do.

Donate to your local church. Mine has a wonderful outreach program and is filled with people best prepared to help the truly far gone.

At most, give them food.

Never, never, ever give pan handlers you suspect have addiction issues money. Your only enabling them with money.
I was hit up by a guy once for some money to buy some soap so he could wash up and get a job, I opened the trunk and handed him a bar of Ivory out of my BOB and he looked at me like I'd spit in his hand. I offered him a towel too, but he was already heading off.

This thread is for addicts to discuss prepping and survival with other addicts. NOT for non-addicts to discuss whatever...

I'm addicted to cigarettes. I've tried herbal substitutes, but in the end, I go right back to them.
What was so bad about clove cigarettes they banned them anyway? (Don't wake up my inner drill Sargent now!) they were the most effective. sage blends cough me to death and Kinnikinnik is expensive as weed!

First of congratulations that is quite a feat.

I have been stumbling with active addiction for years now. Opiates and booze, nicotine. And before anyone judges I hold down a 60 hour a week job, own my own house with acreage and car. All with no help from the government or others. It's been rough but I'll get there(clean) one day. Im not open about it 99% of the population would be and is clueless about it.. and struggle silently when it gets tough. Not sure why I put this out there.

There are lots of functioning addicts out there. I've know many in my different careers. People only think of down in the street types as addicts.

Most of the Co Workers never knew that the person sitting next to them were addicts

I was a functional alcoholic for many years.
Everyone knew it, but I was such a good worker they all let it slide.

I have to ask why is that when Addicts ( drugs, Alchole) quit on or the other always turn to smoking. Smoking the crap in boxes is a drug. The stuff that is leaf is not. Just wondering.......

Risk mitigation. Alcoholics and addicts view tobacco as less harmful than their substance of choice, and it probably is apples to apples comparison. Addicts also love coffee for similar reasons. When I was taking in a fifth a day, I was still very functional (e.g., important job, getting my MBA, juggling a household), but was not emotionally available for my family and friends. Relationships suffered, but I never had a DUI because I always just drank at home. Nothing is better than sobriety for an ex-problem drinker and cigarettes may scratch the itch that is left in the substance wake.

Are methadone clinics a racket? During the pandemic I've learned how utterly criminal the medical establishment is. I know pharmaceutical companies will say and do anything to make money, and I know the FDA and the NIH and academia and media are complicit with this. So I'm wondering if methadone clinics really help opioid addicts or if they just string them along because the pharma companies are making money on the methadone and because the methadone clinics are making money from insurance companies.

@KoolAde2, you reacted to my Post #931 with "Angry." I can think of three possible reasons why you might feel angry.

1. You are uncomfortable with my blanket criticism of the medical establishment.

2. You are certain that methadone clinics do good work, and you feel anger toward me because I suggested otherwise.

3. You know methadone clinics are a scam.

Would you please say which of these is the case?

Thanks.

Methadone Clinics and any thing to do with the Government involved in Drug Rehap is a scam. There is no Money once the Addict is cured. In fact the only reason for the Clinics is to keep the addict addicted to a now sanction drug.
It is all about the Money and always has been. Drugs were fed into the Poor neighborhoods to have them become addicted. So that their will not be an uprising. If you are addicted and worried about your next fix last thing on your mind is how the Government has you bent over. thus no uprising and rebellion.

For long term heroin addicts it's pretty much a requirement.

Cold turkey with heroin is rough. Some of the withdrawal symptoms can actually lead to heart failure. So going it alone without treatment CAN in a lot of cases be almost as dangerous as just continuing to use.

Trouble is a lot of heroin users try the methadone without the care of both a physician and therapists who know how to properly ween someone off the heavy monkey. Not to mention an actual doctor can also prescribe other medications as needed.

An entire litany of ailments usually go along with a long term opioid addiction including but not limited too infections requiring antibiotics, dangerously high blood pressure, chronic insomnia, extreme joint and muscle pain, debilitating nauseous, insomnia and on on and on.

Patently false.

Less harmful in some ways but not others.

It's a tit for tat situarltion with tobacco in particular. Tobacco is physically devastating but it doesn't turn a regular person into a kniving miscreant that would rob his own mother If necessary for a fix.

Kills ya just the same though.

You will never convince me that the Government was involved with the Crack fiscal back in the 70's that tore up the Black Neighborhoods. I could go on but I not going to argue anymore about this a survivor and feel grateful and that my angle guided through those dark days
They don't want the Drugs to stop coming in are could draw a noose so tight. I know first hand that right after 911 and they closed everything the import of drugs dried up .

I don't necessarily disagree with a lot of what you say.

What I will say is its been my experience that a good many people working in those clinics and rehab centers do genuinely want to help people. And do.

I agree there are quite a few on the Front that really care and do help those that they can.
In the end it is still all about the money from the top. they are scamming millions and not really doing anything about the massive problem that is oppressive today.

KoolAde and Smurf, thanks for your contributions to this discussion.

I posted #931 because I just found out that a friend has been struggling with drug addiction. OxyContin was prescribed for him after a surgery a number of years ago, and he got hooked on it. His life has been very difficult ever since.

He was on Suboxone for four years, and it almost killed him, he's said. A few days ago he enrolled in a program at a local Methadone clinic. He is a special friend, and I very much want him to succeed with that program, but as I said in #931, I wonder about the true motivations of the people operating the Methadone clinic.

Smurf, you said, "Not to mention an actual doctor can also prescribe other medications as needed."

There is a local doctor that does that kind of work. He is a good guy. He's been my primary-care doc for about ten years. I'm not part of his addiction clientele; I just go to him for routine care, annual physicals, blood tests, etc. (though I've pretty much stopped doing that because of things I learned during Covid - long story). Anyway, the point is that I know and trust this particular doc. I hope my friend will become one of his patients.

Smurf and KoolAde, you have both said there is help to be found at Methadone clinics, though Smurf appears more confident about that than KoolAde.

In closing, I just want to say that I have nothing but hate for Purdue Pharma and the FDA.
