With the two oldest children out and gone to college.
Their visits are shorter due their schedules.
I find the food items that I have stocked up on are
not going nearly as fast as they used to.
Do I not buy as much or what do I do?
I hate to throw any food away if I can help it.
I did send some canned items home with them
last time they visited, just to move some stuff.

Theoretically you'll need less, I guess just start buying less. If you expect your kids would come back in an emergency, then perhaps they should be responsible for some of the food. If you are going to be responsible for all of it, then I guess your only other option is giving the excess to charity before it goes bad.

We donate to our local food pantry. Every year what we have not or are not going to use we drop off a few weeks before Thanksgiving. That way during the leaner time of year we have possibly brightened someones holidays.
