If they ever offer a plain edge instead of just the combo edge with serrations taking up half the blade I might take a look at it. But I don't really have a need to cut through an airframe or use a knife as a hammer either.

Which model are you looking at? Infantry? ASEK?

If ASEK, you might want to consider Ontario's version as well.

I have the Gerber LMF II ASEK. Overall it is a great knife, although it did need a good sharpen out of the box. The sheath is a bit bulky, but it has a built-in sharpener so it was expected. It can be lashed to a MOLLE or ALICE pack or worn around the leg with provided straps. I give it a 4 out 5 stars. For the price it is a very capable out the box survival knife.

Christmas gift.

I got one of these for Christmas! I agree that it could be a bit sharper right outta the box. I did however, like the weight of this knife. Some may say that it's a little heavy. But I like the feeling of it ...

Can't wait to see what it can do in the field! I don't foresee being disappointed!

If you have a chance, check out the destruction tests for this knife on YouTube! Looked like it was nearly indestructible!

I agree with the serrations. I have no doubt it's a good knife, but the serrations are useless to me and are the deal-breaker.

I have had one for almost two years and find it a great all round knife. I don't hesitate to use it for anything. As others have said, it needs a good sharpening out of the box.

I hate the original sheath so I had a custom one made for it and am much happier.

i got a LMF2 last spring, and am pretty happy with it.
i was able to shave hair off my forearm right out of the box.
it does what i need it to do. the handle feels great.:)

if you really want a good look at how durable they are, checkout the knifetests.com site.

Hi,

Has anyone tried the Gerber LMG II. I have read several articles from soliders in Iraq or Afganistan saying that it is an Outstanding knive.
great knife, i own one, very solid and sturdy, some say the sheath is annoying, i like how versatile it is. but then I've never had a full military combat loadout, it's a greaqt knife, i watched the knifetests.com video series of its destruction, it held up very well for a $60 knife. obviously its not prefect but i think its a great value for the cost

Hey I'm a new member here, but I saw this thread and decided to say my piece about the knife. I bought it a few months ago, I love it, it's versatile, durable and pretty economical compared to survival knives with similar features ([email protected]). The half serrated blade is bashed by some, but it serves me well. Overall a great knife and its made by Gerber so you can expect that.

i bought one from la police gear just after thanksgiving for 59.99 and am glad i did as the price went up on it the next week. i agree with what others have said.

the sheath is kind of bulky but it can be carried many ways. i like way the knife locks into the sheath, it holds on pretty tight without the use of the straps over the handle. the blade did need a little work right out the box, and it would be nice if it had a plain edge, not sure what to do with serrations, or how to sharpen them. also has 3 holes that could be used to lash it to a pole with to make a spear, but i just put a key ring through the butt cap end and teathered some 550 cord to it to keep from loosing it if it should ever come loose from it's sheath. but i don't ever see that happening. as far as cutting though hot electric wires goes i will take the makers word for it. i hate messing with electricity.

over all i would give it 4.5 out of 5 doohickies. that might change when i get out and use it.

I have one as an outdoor knife for bush flying, just great knife, the kydex sheath is nice also. I really didn't like the factory edge so I convexed it. I finished the whole knife on paper wheels even the serrations (I chipped one because of the sheath sharpener) I just love using it very confortable and since it passed on wheel papers the serrations push cut through newspaper and the convexed edge makes cutting a lot smoother and found it to maintain a razor edge longer. For the price I have nothing to say I can trust it.

Lmf ii

I have the LMF II and Its a nice knife ,I have had one for some time and its definately heavy duty, the sheath is to bulky for me but it works ok, I dont need the partially serrated blade but will live with it and it was dull when I got mine and right away sharpened it and it has held a edge well after I resharpened it , Over on a scale of 1-10 I give it a 7
I have the cold steel SRk I use more than the Gerber and feel its a better all around knife at least for me than the Gerber just my opinion

Add me to the list of very satisfied users of the Gerber LMF II. Very tough knife. For my large hands, it fits like a glove, and that's usually pretty hard to do. I like the serrations, but to each his own.

Buy with confidence.

Also, here's a plug for the 3/4-sized LMF: the Gerber Prodigy; It sells for about $48 at LaPoliceGear.com, a price that just went up from around $40. Also an excellent knife, just not quite as heavy and bulky. It's sheath is as well made as the LMF, but sized accordingly and it does not have the integral sharpener. Another winner from Gerber, IMO.

Good luck.

Al
