Halliburton Case for Faraday Cage?

We have an aluminum Halliburton case lined with foam rubber and hubby asked today if it would serve as Faraday protection in case of EMP. We have ham radios which would snuggly fit inside if so.
I know steel and copper are good protection but what about aluminum?

Aluminum would be fine.

However unlikely the Halliburton case would be.

Because of how it seals, likely a gasket of some sort. Fariday containers require complete metal on metal.

Swap out whatever seal for some type of metal wool. Contacting all around. Then maybe. Would be more trouble to than worthwhile , esp given the size you mention.

As an oversimplified example, see EVERY metal ammunition can (of any size) ever made. Not faraday protection unless the gasket is removed & replaced with mesh/wool, and a non conductive insert added. Also more trouble than worthwhile.

Not metal on metal. Although close, still not.

May suffice. May not.

No way to know really, unless something occurs causing an EMP or Carrington type event.

Likely best to also double up, if one does use the tape. Mylar bags, as a simple example. Or other home made cages inside a larger cage (tape sealed trash can as an example).

yup, aluminum will work ok. Not quite as good as copper but way lighter and cheaper. I'm a ham radio operator and used to do CE compliance tests in engineering so I've actually tested this sort of stuff in an controlled EMP lab.

I have had a generator for several years and just purchased a backup, Small 3000w Generac. Lately I think it might be a good thing to EMP proof it. Your thoughts on leaving it in the box and wrapping the box with foil or some other material to protect it. Stupid or is there a better option?
