Just picked up an H&R Pardner 12 Gauge Home Defense Shotgun. Quality seems to be as good as my Mossberg 500, my Remington 870 Tac Express and my Winchester Defender. Already started modifying and am quiet please with the results.

It's a great buy. I've got one and will probably add one or two more if funds permit.
I made a peep site for it this evening and painted it black to match. It functions well (dry run) and looks great all for a whopping 33 cents. Took 5 minutes worth of time to basically install a weaver rail and slightly enlarge the tap hole to accomodate the eye bolt. Came out so well I might end up doing it on all my shotguns.

I saw one at Big 5 for around $180. Payday is the 6th. A Mosin is also coming in to the store that day. I just paid off my credit debt. I think I'm going to be happy.

I'll put up a review after it gets some sweet love.

I'm glad you posted this. I just asked the kid at Big 5 and he told me $199. The managers are usually cool and will give you the sale price if you ask... so I'm going to remind the kid there is a thing called the "sale price."

I got both the Hawk 982 and the Pardner from Big 5... when I lay them side by side the ONLY difference I can see really is the Hawk has the ghost ring sights... but I notice that NIB the Pardner seems to chamber much more smoothly. You have to rack the hawk a few times to get it as smooth as the Pardner. I know Norinco makes them both. I wonder if they are made at separate factories. Does anyone know. (BTW... there is a great write up a guy did where he and his dad cut two Remington 870s and two Pardners apart... sad to destroy such good guns... but his dad is a metalurgist and wanted to compare components. The Pardner came out very very favorably.)

The only downfall that I found in my research is that it has to go to the factory to swap out barrels . I had a deal going on a 18.5" or so barrel ,but wanted to be able to bird hunt efficiently with it , and wanted a longer barrel with chokes . Maybe I need to buy 2 whole guns
