Guns, sex and arrogance: I hated everything about America — until I moved here

People in other countries only know what they hear in the media

We know enough to ignore most of what's written mainly because we see what really happens in America

It's the media that portrays us in a bad light. All just to try to make the weak minded follow a corrupt agenda

When the left tries to dictate how we should live, they only become despotic dictators of sorts

Americans that you meet overseas, tend to be, well ummmmmm wankers. But the Americans I have met on trips to America, as a rule a beautiful human beings, lots of fun, friendly and all round good guys. Maybe it might be the demographic of the type of Americans that like to travel OS. I know many of the drunken Aussie scumbags I have met overseas has made me fell ashamed.

Wait! I'm confused ... I can see how someone could hate arrogance ...

but guns?? Ok, maybe ... it's a stretch for me but I guess I can see it, even if I don't really get it.

But SEX??? Who hates sex???

Indian culture frowns on public expressions of (ahem) sex... which may include passionate kissing, embracing, touching, and so forth...

Ironically, explicit sexual images are acceptable if on a temple or religious object.

ROTFLMAO! Ok, well you've got me there ... and I have to admit that "Two Stroke Willy" wasn't much fun, but I couldn't say I hated it either ... ;)

It's an interesting insight from a well educated, motivated, hard working and law abiding person. I wonder how our resident gang bangers would feel about India if they were suddenly thrust into their culture of work, competitiveness, and personal responsibility. I guess everything is in the eye of the beholder.

I have worked with many professionals from India and they are nice, respectful, intelligent and hard working people. One of our guys from the office had to spend some time in India and he was shocked to see how most live there... including his trip to the rest room where he was looking for a toilet that turned out to be a hole in the floor. Their business environment was not unlike ours but step outside and wowser!

Bottom line is there are great people all over the world, even here in AmeriKA. But I don’t see people here lining up to move to any other country. This is still “the place” to come and there is no shortage of people lining up to get here. We must be still doing something right… for now.

We Americans are complex people. Exceedingly kind and compassionate, yet also considered rude and ugly. Why? It's our directness. A firm handshake, eye contact, and an authoritative voice are considered attributes in our country yet are considered exceedingly rude in other countries. As such, I don't buy the ugly American theme that is put forth by so many. We are who we are. Direct, yet polite, well off but sympathetic to those who are not, proud of our country yet welcoming to those who visit, confident that our way of life is a good one and eager to help others achieve the same thing. While it's true we project our power across the globe, I think we do so because we truly want to help other people.

What I know is that during and after more than Ten Years Shipboard Travels, I KNOW I was Blessed to be born a U.S. Citizen. Every Country I visited in my travels (and I've seen Quite a few) was less desirable than America in my estimation.

As I am approaching Old Age, I realize I have diminishing desire to learn New Language(s), and less interest in adapting to another culture.

I'm glad her first experience here was from living in Houston.

Foreigners love it so much that we white Texans are a minority here now and yet it still seems to work out for all of us.
