I thought this was an interesting article.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27393833/

Americans have cut back on buying cars, furniture and clothes in a tough economy, but there's one consumer item that's still enjoying healthy sales: guns. Purchases of firearms and ammunition have risen 8 to 10 percent this year, according to state and federal data.

Several variables drive sales, but many dealers, buyers and experts attribute the increase in part to concerns about the economy and fears that if Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois wins the presidency, he will join with fellow Democrats in Congress to enact new gun controls. Obama has said that he believes in an individual right to bear arms but that he also supports "common-sense safety measures."

Gun purchases have also been climbing because of the worsening economy, which fuels fears of crime and civil disorder, industry sources and specialists said.

I had to defer on paying certain bills, in order to acquire my Saiga AK-47, because of the economy and Obama's probable win.

If he does win, that AK-47 will be worth it's weight in gold. If you had to, you could probably resell it for twice what you paid for it.

The article is correct. We could hardly find a parking spot at the gun shop the other day, it was so crowded. . .and this was on a weekday evening.

Yeeeah...at this point I'm just making the minimum payments on everything and using the left over money to save for some more..."hardware" and ammunition.

My wife just doesn't understand the need for even a single gun. I have been trying to explain to her the need for a backup 22, carry gun,ect..... Their value won't go down. It's money in the bank.

At this point I'd buy one anyway and deal with the her being angry. Or hide it and maybe she wont find out. :thumb:

People are holding on to their guns as well.

A year ago you could find a lot of people willing to sell a gun FTF, now they are almost non existent.

I have what I have, but I'm not buying anymore. I wouldn't be surprised to see a new Assault Weapons Ban, this time with confiscation of the ARs, AKs, Mini14a and most other seni rifles and shotguns. It happened in Australia, England, and Canada...don't think it can't happen here! And I really doubt the "authorities" will buy some cock-n-bull story about the tragic boating accident where most of my guns were lost. I'm not naive enough to think Big Brother doesn't know exactly what I have and exactly where to look for it.

As the old saying goes......."Better to have and not need, than to need and not have"

In my preparations I have bought many things even stuff that I don't need now but might need later........

All I have is a .22 S&W revolver. I am heading down there next week to look at the 9mm's as I doubt a little .22 will get me out of any big jams-although i suppose it's better than nothing. I will come up with the money.
