SICK SURVEILLANCE: GOOGLE REPORTS FLU SEARCHES, LOCATIONS TO FEDS
Tue Nov 11 2008 15:34:50 ET

GOOGLE will launch a new tool that will help federal officials "track sickness".

"Flu Trends" uses search terms that people put into the web giant to figure out where influenza is heating up, and will notify the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in real time!

GOOGLE, continuing to work closely with government, claims it would keep individual user data confidential: "GOOGLE FLU TRENDS can never be used to identify individual users because we rely on anonymized, aggregated counts of how often certain search queries occur each week."

Engineers will capture keywords and phrases related to the flu, including thermometer, flu symptoms, muscle aches, chest congestion and others.

Dr. Lyn Finelli, chief of influenza surveillance at CDC: "One thing we found last year when we validated this model is it tended to predict surveillance data. The data are really, really timely. They were able to tell us on a day-to-day basis the relative direction of flu activity for a given area. They were about a week ahead of us. They could be used... as early warning signal for flu activity."

Eric Schmidt, GOOGLE's chief executive vows: "From a technological perspective, it is the beginning."

Thomas Malone, professor at M.I.T.: "I think we are just scratching the surface of what's possible with collective intelligence."

I was thinking the same thing. You can bet this is only the tip of the iceberg, it's not like they're going to give us a head's up.:D:

I realize that, I just thought it was interesting that they don't have a problem making this public, and plenty of people will think it's a "good" thing. The more complacent they become, the easier it'll be to get them to accept everything that comes after.

Those sneaky bastards.

I think a novel needs to be written in the same vein as Henry Bowman or Bob Lee Swagger and have the protagonist end up escaping to the Last Frontier, driving his F250 4x4 with S&W 500 in tow.

They track all users searching habits folks. That was declared a while ago. Every search you have ever done. I am sure some of us have a "file" with some sort of intelligence department haha.

sounds like they're watching for possible pandemics or bio attacks. Or in case of a false flag is some kind of alibi (okay Im reaching there). but certainly those eggheads at the CDC can use the data to track which flu vaccines have what effect where.

oh crap....

damn tin foil- now I'm thinking about them useing google in conjunction with some kind of Rosewood type experiment on civillians.

I saw a show on National Geographic about big brother and google was a major component. Most search engines keep searches for about 30 days but google keeps every search forever. They also keep every email generated through their organization. They are a major factor in the big brother activity.

Stop using them. Things that mean nothing now could be manipulated in the future to burn you.
