With the solar maximum on the way, and a number of solar disturbances rotating toward "earthside", I recommend these websites:

http://spaceweather.com/ (always check down the left column for info on Xray solar flares, coronal holes, and other data.) Attached is a pic of today's 3-1-11 solar image taken from "earthside".

For a great composite image from the farside of the sun, see the greenish image at the top:

http://stereo-ssc.nascom.nasa.gov/beacon/beacon_farside.shtml

The images below it don't contain as much useful data as the yellow images on this page:

http://gong.nso.edu/data/farside/

All of the above are update daily.

Anyone with better websites for this sort of info, please post links.

MAGNETIC STORM IN PROGRESS: A solar wind stream hit Earth's magnetic field during the early hours of March 1st, sparking a G2-class geomagnetic storm, in progress. High latitude sky watchers should remain alert for auroras.
