And the UN has issued its latest report.

http://www.nytimes.com/2014/11/03/w...3/world/europe/global-warming-un-intergovernmental-panel-on-climate-change.html

A summary: There is no doubt it is happening; desperate action has to be taken now to try to slow the rate of change; politicians and industry are doing virtually nothing and it doesn't look like they're going to.

At this point I think it's every man for himself. The problem is, I still have not been able to come up with a really clever way to deal with what's going to be a very uncertain and perhaps even unpredictable future. Some things like being self sufficient and independent of the grid are of course basic; but some way short of becoming a billionaire to protect myself and my family?

I wish I had one. :(

Be wary of your fellow man. You will not know who to trust.

There are many people running a con game that has become very profitable. They will continue pushing the agenda as long as they are turning a profit, even a smaller profit that in the past.

Meanwhile, there are many wackos out there. Be wary of them.

http://science.nasa.gov/science-news/science-at-nasa/2014/06oct_abyss/

In the 21st century, greenhouse gases have continued to accumulate in the atmosphere, just as they did in the 20th century, but global average surface air temperatures have stopped rising in tandem with the gases.
Seems like that raises some doubt...

A new NASA study shows that from 1978 to 2010 the total extent of sea ice surrounding Antarctica in the Southern Ocean grew by roughly 6,600 square miles every year, an area larger than the state of Connecticut. And previous research by the same authors indicates that this rate of increase has recently accelerated, up from an average rate of almost 4,300 square miles per year from 1978 to 2006.
That's odd too...

But who should believe NASA those crazy rocket scientists know nothing about climate change.

I've reserved my "public" opinion for this moment.

It's BULL...

We're generally cleaner than "humans" have been for decades. Sure, there's more of us, but we aren't all burning coal, whale blubber and wood. The US is cleaner than it has been since god knows when...

If "you" want to "clean" the environment, why don't YOU start with China, India and other countries that are several hundreds times dirtier than the US?

Oh, that's right, that's what Agenda 21 is for...

Lets all screw each other in making the environment cleaner while PAYING those less fortunate to "deal" with the environmental changes.

If you believe in all this c r a p... P i s s off........

If you honestly think that's in our future, I suppose you'd want to make sure you have access to water, both in a stream and in the ground. Perhaps those cheap Canadian properties will soon be desirable as their temps rise. IDK, is it believed to make more or less rain?

I believe global warning is a farce. Millions go into the pockets of those doing the study so the results are of course exactly what the buyer of the information wants,. These companies doing the studies are probably run by Gore. He has made millions off this. Don't think for one minute he is involved for nothing. His own utility bills are astronomical.

I live at 1800 feet. I'm building a dock in my yard right now. Nothing fancy, about 20 feet long. 4 feet wide. Suspended on 6X6s, cedar decking. Just your basic dock.

Next summer I'm buying a pontoon boat. I'm having it delivered and I'm tying it to the dock in my yard.

Global warming and sea rise, I'm drinking a beer on my boat.

Global cooling and ice age, I'm drinking beer on my boat.

Same old status quo, I'm drinking beer on my boat.

I am doing my part for the environment. Because there will be no fuel in the boat, because it sits on grass. The water is a mile away. It will just sit there, and I will entertain on it.

It is just going to sit there in the yard as a symbol of our time here. I am going to paint the names of all the climate change, global cooling, global warming, evolution, creationism, gun rights, gun control, democrats, republicans, big oil, nuke plants, war, murder, tourture, terror, the war on terror, ebola, immigration, race, religion, discrimination, and all the other stupid stuff we humans find to argue and kill each other over, on the pontoons.

I will drink my beer happily on my boat. Because both symbolically and in reality, I will be above all of this BS. People will laugh at me for having a boat in the middle of my yard. They will mock me for being so far from water. I will cheerfully offer them a beer and ask them to read my pontoons. And then I will ask. With all that stuff going on, do you still think having a boat tied up to a dock on dry land is so crazy?

Then I will grant them permission to come aboard. And we will spend the day trying to make the world a better place, instead of a worse one.

I think I will call my boat the "S.S. Reality Check"

RR, Legend in his own mind. Trying to fix bad science? As per the usual, didactic to the extreme. Get a nice, on your own terms, captive audience. Have some kids . No, that wouldn't be fair to them. Go hug a tree or better yet, cut one down and burn it, you know, to help prove the bad science.

Man, in it's unending quest to be significant, has the ego to believe we are changing the planet irreparably. Really. 7 billion people weigh, what, a trillion pounds? I have rocks in my yard that weigh more. Just interview my lawn mower.

We can't harvest even a tiny fraction of what Earth provides so to compensate, we imagine we alter her to some semblance of significance. Remember the Bering Bridge? that's when, during one of the ice ages, Asians walked over to North America. Remember when Florida was an archipelago? Oops, the oceans were 275' higher due to no ice. Those wacky natives must have known more about altering the climate than we, at miniscule fractions of the populace.

Get over it. We cannot alter the climate to anything remotely resemble a significant degree. Here's a little tidbit. In the 50's, I remember reading in one of the magazines that Mom subscribed to, think Life or Reader's Digest, that we were, in our lifetime, going to go through another Ice Age. There were descriptions and artist renderings of what the planet would be like. Scared the bejeezus out of me.

How about this? Should all the ice melt, Boston disappears. Reason enough for me to root it on. More water in the oceans by far, coupled with higher temperatures = more food crop growing rain, the habitability of the previously frozen North and beach front property for millions who can't now afford it. Bring it on. Al Gore and his minions can suck the Big One.

and your post is proof positive that my efforts are needed.

"man couldnt possibly effect the climate!"

once upon a time man couldnt imagine going to the moon. but we did it.

a human is 10 trillion trillion times more massive than a prion, and yet the prion will make you go mad and eventually die. the disparity in mass between that simple little protein and a person is 10 trillion times LESS than that seen in your comparison between the mass of people and the mass of the planet. but dont let that stop you as passing off nonscience as rational argument.

Oh, you're still around? How odd.

But thank you for your kind wishes. Since my attempts to get my elected leaders to behave intelligently and not squander the public money trying to make the U.S. a solo global leader in fighting climate change are not working, I've decided to abandon those and worry only about what I can accomplish. And since I'm having similar non-success trying to persuade those who insist climate change isn't happening that this may actually be TEOTWAWKI and it would be wise to prepare for that possibility, I've decided to ignore those individuals, as well. Time will tell who is right; and if I am, I can only hope those who were like the Grasshopper and insisted things COULD NOT POSSIBLY change don't wind up demanding the government come save them, regardless of cost. As long as they're the ones who don't have to pay that cost.

I hope, but I am not optimistic. Considering the caliber of character such people routinely display. :(
