how does the death rate on this flu compare to our usual strains? I know the usual strains kills thousands in the US every year.

They're not saying. You can't compute it from the numbers they're giving us since they stopped releasing data to the public. The 436 in the US is so statistically unlikely as to be practically impossible (unless it was on the wane or mutated into something benign). It's more likely 2-3x that amount.

The CDC could give us a good idea since they have data from various networks. Even if health care institutions are not directly testing for H1N1, they could look at ICD-9 codes for "influenza-like illnesses" (ILI).

These stats are about four days old.

just scroll down the page, for global lists by nation.
The Swedish stats are out of date. I dont think anyone keeps track of all the new cases any more. We have probably over thousand infected right now, but nobody knows for sure.

So far we have zero causualties, but we have four seriously ill, connected to ecmo machines. They would most likely have died without the hi-tec "repalcement lungs". (We also had a woman from Scotland sent here for ecmo-treatment, but she got better and was sent home.)
