Heck, we can't get reliable information NOW, without a war or societal collapse! I would not trust the Ham/SW stuff. It's a fun hobby now, but when the SHTF, it will get co-opted. You'll never know who is really on the other end of it and what their intentions are.

During WWII, the French Resistance set up pyramid command schemes where no one person every knew more than two other people. Mass communication was done by coded messages disguised in poetry, literature or underground newspapers. They also got info from British broadcasts, but I fear that if SHTF here, there will be no other country that would do that for us and even if there were places that could send out broadcasts, you would never know if and when they would get compromised.

I think there is no one answer. It will depend on the exact nature of the SHTF situation.
