Hi All

So I was wondering if anyone here has any suggestions for a good (and hopefully cheap) gasoline pump for a 55 gallon fuel drum. Given my land, my best option for storing some fuel was a 55 gallon steel drum, which I got for free. (I also have some propane, but don't have enough land to bother with large tanks of either propane/gas/diesel). I have this drum in a shed, and its easy enough to pull my car up next to it. Between this drum and 4 X 5 gallon tanks, its fairly easy for me to at least save some money by buying low and using high. Has saved me some money so far. So I am looking for something like the below link, but I was hoping to save some money. Any suggestions?

Regular 12 V electric fuel pump. $50 new almost free at junk yard. Slow maybe 50 gal an hour. Not a lot of suction lift but will push a lot further.

you need to be careful recommending improvised stuff to non-DIYers ..... throwing power to something like your recommendation, with alot of proper protection is going to get people killed ....

Had I suggested the use of a gerry rigged water pick for fuel transfer I would stand corrected but to suggest the use of a fuel pump to pump fuel seems resonable.

My last trip to the junk yard cost a buck to get in, but any thing you could get in your pockets was free so the sign said.

Those new worthless non vented gas cans with ridged spouts are about worthless for putting gas in my truck unless I'm on a steep sidehill so I use my extra electric fuel pump to transfer the fuel several a year as I cycle threw my stored gas.

I have several times given fuel to other stranded people, filled my gasolene burning army camp stove using my primary electric fuel pump.

I stand by my other infomation that it will slow, and the pump will push fuel farther than it willl lift.

I do have one of the tiny manual pumps, but really don't want to fool with that every time. As for the fuel pump, agreed one would need to be careful, and also agree I would expect it to be slow, with little ability to overcome head pressure. If your interested in how to modify one of those POS green peace gas cans, this is how I did it. Worked well enough. http://coolprepperstuff.com/2012/02/10/a-gas-can-that-works/

My real goal here though, is to be able to pump it right into the car and avoid the intermediate step.
