So I was in the pawn shop today and for some reason was looking at air guns and I saw a Gamo Varmint Stalker on the wall with a decent looking scope for 80 bucks. I know the people there quite well so I actually ended up getting it and some other items for only 82 after taxes. The scope is a cheap winchester 4X32AO it adjusts apparently from 15 yards to 200 yards, no zoom I assume it adjusts the crosshair elevation. It has no open sights which kind of sucks but it shoots 1250 feet per second with the approved ammo and 1000 fps with normal round. I took it home and dry fired it and the damn thing is louder than a .22lr with no ammo it in. It's a little quieter with pellets being shot but still loud as hell. But I "needed" one to add to my arsenal. They also had a 10/22 for 170 that I'm kicking myself for not getting, but I've got 2 10/22 and a savage .22 as well. Anyone have any experience with this thing? I've seen mixed reviews but the bad ones seem to be morons with no gun sense to start with and the good ones are so vague. I need to clean it up it was not well taken care of at all. I know this will take down small game quite well, I'm not an air gun guy so I'm a little lost on distance I've read it hitting up to 100 yards on squirrel and I've read people not hitting the target at 50, either way I think I got a good deal on this for what it is and it serves a purpose.
First thing is that the advertized speeds for pellet guns is not for real pellets. They generally use ultra-light cleaning pellets which don't have much in the way of energy.

I doubt that you can hit/kill a squirrel at 100 yards. A 22 lr has a lot more power than your pellet gun and 100 yards is a long shot for it. Your going to need to determine the effective range by testing your gun.
