I'm looking for an outdoor watch for hikes (and my preps) and found The Casio G-Shock G9300-1 and the Pro Trek PRG-270-1. I've tried to read reviews, but couldn't find out if they are both solar atomic. What would be the main differences in terms of the solar cells and their longevity? It would be nice to have an ABC watch with the Pro Trek, but I'd like something built to last. Thank you!

I have been very happy with my Casio titanium solar pathfinder. I can't well enough to change the batteries every 4 years in my regular pathfinder. Best feature is the tracking barometer - storms never sneak up on me anymore. I guess they don't make it any more

I just looked it up mine, it was $183 back in July of 2019 from the Casio Store included a Square Trade warranty. Checked the battery warning on my old one; not on yet. I turn off all the alarms (can give away your position) and seldom use the backlight.

I have owned both. I am a watch guy.

Got rid of both as my ideas about watches changed.

The Pro Trek line is simply better in my opinion.

But, I have no use for this bells and whistles any more, as such, the only Casio I own now is a Casio Duro. Which I think is the dollar for dollar best watch in the world.

I'm just looking for an ABC watch that would be good for hikes or emergency preps. I know it's not atomic, but would the Pro Trek PRG-270-1 still maintain time if the grid goes down?

You can calibrate them to match the oscillator counts to seconds more precisely. If you do, they would be accurate within a few seconds per month. YMMV but that would make the atomic clock link less important for me.

I have worn Solar Protreks for more than a decade. They are all still working and the compass, barometer (tracked/graphed over the previous 24 hours) , tide and phases of the moon are all useful.

I'm awatch whore too, and my go now for years is my county comm automatic

simple, functional, reliable, classy and ready for a night on the town, or stompin thru the boonies.

I have a .mil lensatic compass and my garmin gps/glonass handheld gives me the other bells and whistles...

I had the Atomic G Shock for about 20 years until the strap work hardened and broke. The new strap was over 100.00 so the watch sits in a drawer with old ones. I just got the Garmin Instinct non atomic this summer . It's ok . It has a pile of features I don't use and if I do have to use them I need to read the instructions.
