Since I live in a dinky rural town and the wind blows west (towards the heavier populated cities), the ol' gas mask isn't even being considered in my plans. If I were a city slicker, it probably would be an option.

I have never heard of that particular mask, so I dont know much about it, however personally I would go with something a little better if you are going to spend the money. Something that will give you a better field of vision, better filter placement, and fit.
The one thing you need to be aware of is that Gas masks, Air Purifying Respirators, and such need to be FIT TESTED to ensure proper fit. Most of these masks come in sizes Small, Medium, Large, Extra Large. You can test the mask when you put it on to ensure you have a good seal. But really the only true way is to have yourself fit tested for a particular mask, this way whenever you need it you know it will properly fit.

With that particular model it doesn't look like someone with glasses can wear it. There are masks out there that have inserts in them for a person with glasses. I believe 3M and MSA have some if I am not mistaken.

research indicates this mask is the CRBN version of those "smoke escape hoods".
I don't see anything about it being effective for Chlorine, Ammonia or other chemical type threats, which I would think this type of 'Escape' mask would be most likely to be used for.
It's also a one size fits all deal, which is a questionable trait in a real protective mask. Hey, even the old Russian GP-5 hood style masks come in sizes.
They are also *insanely* expensive, running from 170 to over 200 dollars-which will buy you nearly any new, quality mask with M95 filters which DO stop chlorine and ammonia.

Also, if I'm reading it right (all the ad copy is sort of...vague) I believe this is a one use disposable unit. I think the filters are molded directly into the mask....not a great piece of gear if this is so.

The field of vision is greatly hindered. As a prior service member whose MOS was NBC (Now CRBNE), it would have been better to just go without than use this mask on the battlefield.

Would like to see one up close before shelling out $180 plus for it. In most scenarios you will be more concerned with particulate from a dirty bomb. Gas attacks will only affect a small area and will disipate quickly. SOmething you can carry in a purse or a brief case or a lunch pail or computer bag would make a nice item to have.

I agree with you. This mask probably isn't worth the high price tag. It doesn't appear to have changeable filters and it isn't offered in different sizes. A protective mask needs to be fitted to the person's face that will wear it for adequate protection. The fact that I didn't see a hood isn't a good sign either. It did state that it was effective against anthrax, but I highly doubt it. This is not known by most soldiers, but the standard issue U.S. Army M40 series protective mask isn't 100% effective against anthrax because of the small size of the anthrax spores. During a "nuclear event", the protective mask filters will need to be changed on any mask that was worn outside in the contaminated area, in order to prevent the buildup of contaminated particles ("hot spots") from resting near the wearer's face, eyes, brain etc., once they find shelter indoors. The same thing goes for a chemical attack. Wearing protective clothing from the outside to the inside will only contaminate the shelter without proper decon. NBC is nasty crap that only begs for an opportunity for "cross contamination".

I'm afraid that cinema would turn into real life quickly if I had to wear that mask for more than 30 minutes. I have worn an M17 and M40 series Army issue mask for 12 hours at a time and wasn't a happy soldier, but that mask looks damn uncomfortable.
