I'm a newbie to being a prepper. I have been reading the threads for days, and I haven't seen this so I thought I'd ask. I was wondering if anyone knows of good books for newbies on food storage. I saw a couple of books on Amazon, but I wanted to see if anyone could recommend one. Thanks!

LDS Preparedness Manual

If I had known about this manual before I started buying books a few years ago I could have saved a bunch of money -- or at least spent my money a little more wisely.

Even if you are not interested in their religious philosophy, there is a TON of information there.

The LDS Preparedness Manual can be bought from amazon for $3.99 and downloaded to a kindle if you want. I like to have a hard copy and a kindle copy of some things so I can read what ever I want when I'm away from the house.
:D: Lordy, I know I'm showing my age now but I just printed it off and put it in a 3 ring binder ... :xeye:

I found the "Emergency Food Storage & Survival Handbook" to be helpful. Additionally, there are some cookbooks that actually have recipes incorporating prep food into the recipes (like dehydrated, freeze-dried, beans...I had no idea how to cook raw beans, lol). These books have a ton of recipes: "Cookin with Home Storage" & "Cooking With Food Storage Made Easy". I think these are written by Mormon women so they incorporate some of the ideas from the LDS manual into their writing. I'm not big on the religous side but the Mormons definitely have it right when it comes to food storage. :thumb:

Badge Bunny, I LUV my three-ring binders! Mine has plastic sheet protectors that hold instructions for different foods I've stored, like grits and oatmeal, plus garden information and all kinds of miscellaneous information.
Yep. I'm a retired paralegal ... I don't throw anything (paper) away and if it is important to me then I have three copies ... one on the computer, one burned on a CD and a hard copy in my binder(s). :D:
