It helps to bring it home. I feel for them. In 1961 we came back to find nothing but a slab and one comode. I feel it was better then since I could not see my things destroyed. I can't imagine what your family must be going through seeing things they can't replace ruined before their eyes. I wish I could come down and help. Right now I am nursing a broken L 5 in my back. Driving to OK was too much last week. Please extend our deepest sympathy to your folks. Larry

Kev, how far from the coast was this house?
The last BIG hurricane here was Hugo. I live about 200 miles inland and it did a lot of damage here but not that bad. I heard Charleston SC looked like Hiroshima.

I dont know what the construction is like in Texas but in a couple of the cities that I have lived in a lot of the big housing contractors just slap houses together with the cheapest materials possible with little regard for whoever is going to live there for the next x amount of years. I was wondering if you think that shoddy construction of houses plays any part in how badly this person's house or other's houses weathered the hurricane either this time or in the past.
Having said that though, I've never been through a hurricane but from what it looks like your house would have to be made of concrete and steel buried underground for it not to turn out something like that. Truly Horrific and my heart goes out to those that are rebuilding their houses and lives
