What's the best fitness for single moms

Single moms have pretty much the same bone structure and musculature as married moms and women who aren't moms if I remember high school biology correctly, a few changes in the pelvic floor between the moms and the non-moms but that is about it. A lot of things have changed since then but I don't think that has.

Do you have a more specific question or is there something biologically I missed?

Hahaha Mel that post just made my day.

On that note me and my wife both used to be gym rats. Then we had a kid and it made going more problematic. Some gyms do offer child care but we both generally have trust issues so it wasn't really an option we liked.

So my wife got into the beach body workouts basically body weight workouts with a video to guide you along. T25 and Piyo are the ones she likes best. Also I highly recommend a good running stroller, the best ones aren't cheap but the expensive ones aren't the best ones, so do your research here, this has allowed us to still run together and we're both able to keep in shape better because of it.

It depends on what you like to do.

Chase pokemon?
Long walk pushing the stroller "with the girls"?
High stepping, hair flipping, dance moves to the latest DVD?
Basic bodyweight exercises?
Running?
Weights? What kind, machines or free weight?

Tons of ways to get into shape. Join a gym with childcare and find out what you like. If you like it you will be more prone to do it.

Me, I am a running and powerlifting kind of gal. No kids here.

When you say you are a single mom, that means one thing to me - BUSY! The best fitness program (in my opinion) is one that you can do on your own time, at your own place. Find some really good fitness DVD's based on what you like to do: yoga, in home walking, aerobics, etc. That way you can fit a work out in anytime, during naps, early morning, late at night, whatever. Remember that housework CAN be a work out in itself, too!

Basically, the same as you'd reccomend for anyone else. a good mix of cardio, stretches, and (this is especially important for women, as they often don't do enough) weight/strength training.

make sure to keep pushing yourself. if you aren't improving, you're deteriorating.

From a side point of view:

A. If it's a new Mum check with the Dr/Physio to make sure it's OK to exercise etc, as far as I know some Mothers move the stomach muscles when pregnant so need special treatment etc.

B. Once given the OK from the Dr etc, then any exercise that is gentle. I would suggest Yoga, and Swimming, nothing too vigorous. I guess the post birth hormones may effect the muscles so some care is needed.

Lastly, as said above once the all clear is given, do what you enjoy, whether it's walking, riding, biking, lifting weights, what ever. It matters not!
