One thing we have in Texas is Feral Hogs. I have studied, watched videos, and watch American Hoggers to learn more about killing, dressing out, cooking, etc for these little monsters.
We have a 400 acre ranch, and they root around everything. We let one friend trap them and eat them because he fell on hard times. But I don't know whether to start disposing of them or waiting in case the SHTF. They would be a good food source in our BOL.
Thoughts?

I know they multiply so fast. Yes we have an acre fence around the living quarters so we can plant and a fence inside that for our chickens. We have a good amount of deer and turkeys there too, so I was thinking we would probably have enough, and we could start killing now.
One other question, will they go after my horses?
Thanks for the info :)

My dad lives near Kona, HI, and their hog problem is just as bad as that of the southern states.

This year alone he has killed 47 hogs (since the last time I talked to him a couple weeks ago) and I have no doubt that he'll break 70 before the end of the year. A sow can have a ridiculous number of piglets, and they can begin breeding at an early age. Kill 'em, bury 'em and shoot the next one, they're kinda like zombies, they just keep coming regardless of how many you kill.

The boars taste nasty, so, if you are thinking about using them as a food source, leave the boars lay and shoot the sows for meat.

I live in Texas also and I'm well aware of our little hog problem. You can't put a dent in their population. I've taken out at least 25 of them with an AK47 on my ranch in the last few weeks and I still have hogs. Fire away give the buzzards a treat. There's going to be plenty left over if you need to munch on one occasionally.

wild boar does test different. it actually tastes like pork is supposed to taste. look up #9 hog trap. you will find how to build them. they are cheap and easy to build.

take field corn and spread it around. take and make a simple syrup and frozen strawberrys and soak them and put it in a 2lt bottle and poke a hole in the top with a wick. it will drip and those pigs will come a running.

if you soak the meat in salt water and change the fluid every 4 hours it will pull the game taste out of the meat

Ate some tonight.....My son killed a 300 lb boar earlier in the week and we had us some smoked loin tonight....MMMmmmMMM Good!!!

And it didn't taste nasty a bit. Soaked the meat in salt water for 2 days before I wrapped and put in the freezer. No gamey taste at all. Great Flavor.

We're in Arkansas.

Can't see the hog pics but congrats to your son. I have heard often that there are worms in them, but I guess it's depends on where you are. The guy trapping on our property says they are great! His family enjoys them very much.
As far as a trap, yes we have a large one and the doors shut once they go in. We have a 15 ft deer feeder above it and it's timed, so they just come on in for the corn :) I think I will hunt some in the next week or so :)

At a class I went to that was put on by the county extension office, they said you must remove 70% of the hogs annually just to tread water.

I would not stop trapping them. They will destroy your place.

We have some acreage right on the Brazos river and they are a constant problem. If the SHTF, you won't have to wait long for their numbers to explode.

Here is my hog damage remediation rig. It's a disc harrow with a 7 ton cultipacker behind it.

Anyone willing to invite me to come out and do some hog hunting this spring sometime?
They are literally all over the place, I go out to a few ranches were they pay good money for hog removal and its not liek those lame ass shows that were on tv a while back either. Those guys were idiots! Making a huge deal about some baby hog only weighing maybe 75-100lbs.
