I always liked a natural hole in a creek bank. If it has water invading the hole that much the better. I set my trap in the water in front of the hole. Then I find a big oak leaf and wedge it inside the hole . If thier is water in the hole make sure the leaf is floating when its wedged. Now take a bit of sardine , or some sardine juice from the can and place it on the leaf .
This set has worked likea charm over the years, and will take a number of different furbearers, including raccoon, opossum, mink , and the occasional beaver. I usually use some leave"s that have fallen in to the water to lightly cover the trap.
