I do use a .40 S&W, but I have a .22 LR that I prefer for a wider range of uses, and ammo is cheap.
reallity is shot placement, not size.

I think I hit .357 Sig (which I also like) instead of .357 Mag!
I have a lot of favorites, but if only one pistol/revolver allowed, I would take the .357 Magnum.
Depending on the load, good for plinking, small game and self defence.
The .45 ACP would be a close second.
* I reserve the right, to change my mind, in the next poll, on this subject.
** One of each (at least) is the option I like best.

I voted for the .40. It is a good compromise between the easy handling, make-em-mad 9mm, and the hard-to-handle-for-small-hands, drop em with fewer shots .45. Besides, I have put thousands of rounds through three Glock .40's I have owned, and I am real used to it! :p

I like the 10mm, .41 mag volocities and energy, but very controlable.
Smith 1006
Colt Delta Elite
Both fine pistols
Glock offers one, but I really like the Colt over it, and if you don't care to clean your weapon, the Smith holds the high mark.

I was looking for the button that said "ALL". I use most all calibers mentioned, for specific jobs. They're ALL my favorites! Tools... I've got some little tools; I've got some big tools; I've got some magnum tools... You know what I mean! :D

I voted for the lowly 22 rim fire. Yeah its not as galmorous as the 45 ACP I carry as a duty side arm these days. It doesnt give me the ability to load down to mild 44 Spl or wrist wrenching full throttle 44 Mag loads out of my Ruger Black Hawk, but at .02 cents a round and with some many things it can be used for its by far the chambering thats consumed in insaine amounts around here. Every gun owner ought to have a Ruger Single Six in thier collection! Its just criminal to deny ones self that much fun.

Dittos! I love the 22LR just as you do, they are just so much fun! For me though the 357mag is very versitile, I can down load it with wadcutters for grouse and rodents (That used to be legal here) or I can build a 200 grn bear pill. No handgun round is perfect and the 357mag sorta sits in the middle of the power spectrum. To me the 357mag is sorta the Volkswagen of calibers, it covers alot of needs and is not a pain to feed. Of course I could say the same about the 41 and 44 mags but then we would have to deal with the larger frames and weight.

Like Randy said, I also like the .40... Designed to have a hard hit like a .45 but not the drop. Flat shooting like the .357 but with more punch. I also agree with Randy as I also own multiple Glocks and various calibers. The .40 is still my favorite.

o.k my " work a day " pistol is a .45 auto but my favorite is my 7.62 nagant revolver as I have a lot of fun making the cases for this pistol by reworking .223 brass .
