I got this knife years ago on sale from drpower.com for less than $20. I think Dr called it an Italian Farmer's Knife. It has not proven quite as useful as I thought but mostly I forget that I have it. I am going to try it for harvesting some lighter knots from fallen pines and maybe for cutting roots as I prepare a small kitchen garden this spring.

Looks like a machete with a hook. It should work for certain tasks, but its not a general use farmers knife.
What kind of knife tasks do you have?

I think I have seen them called brush hooks. I don't remember how I came to use one but I remember it was a blister maker.

It does resemble the bush hook like clearing crews use, along with chain saws, clearing road right-of-ways and the vegetation that would be between the low and high water marks in the Flaming Gorge of Utah when it was flooded. The bush hook however has a 48" stout wooden handle.

The Dr catalog did mention some uses of the farmer's knife, but that was a long time ago. I am going to use the knife for whatever it will do but I will wear gloves, cutting roots for sure.

It looks like it would be good for that.

I did a search for the image and it seems to be of Swiss origin. I find nothing relating it to Italian farmers.

I would say good on sticker bushes and vines, the hooked part for dragging them out
