I'm concerned about something that I heard today out of Washington. When asked about the baby formula problem, Biden's new press secretary used the word "hoarding". This is worrying. We should pay attention. A shortage is in play... the government is Blaming people who stock up... those people are given a label...."hoarders"... next will come mild condemnation of said hoarders. This condemnation will grow more fierce. Soon enough these hoarders are going to be the newest targets of public outcry. Names will be named and the rats will be rats. How will this evolve? When preparing becomes hoarding... hoarding becomes stealing. We all become criminals.

1) One cannot be accused of hoarding if one keeps their mouth shut.

2) I strongly suggest everyone have
ill fitting clothes and shoes on hand in case things get really bad, which is looking more likely each day. I have a lot of old worn out clothes from when I was 100 lbs. Heavier. I can easily dress like a starving, desperate person which the majority of the public may end up looking like.

Well, the US did call in gold less than 100yrs ago (failed attempt) to help the economy and war efforts...
No saying they can't "call in" other things or try to.

Buying important things with cash, buying under $10k of gold (or anything) at a time... always wise.

But yeah, I think you're making too big a deal of this. Go about your business.

No idea why your burdening yourself with assumptions but I can advise it’s not worth the thought.
I wouldn’t agree that it’s an assumption. It is, in fact, part of the public record that different agencies in the US are empowered to seize materials if it is determined to be hoarding. Several Presidents have signed such orders.

If you ever have some free time look into the ties between the WIC program and the Big 3 who supply formula. Once you understand that relationship you might tend to think recent headlines about another subject (R vs W) relating to babies and the formula market might be related. This is just thoughts from my tin foil bunker.

From what I understand, the big three have been selling formula under the WIC program at a loss. When the program started in the early 70's, WIC was a good way to get free advertising. Any grocery store who took WIC had to stock the baby formula. So an automatic distribution windfall was set in place. As time went on, more and more things were added to WIC and the population grew and grew and that small loss on the baby formula turned into huge year over year loss leader. The relationship that was cozy decades ago is more of a headache for them today. Now factor in just-in-time replenishment and the FDA shutting down production at one baby formula plant for contamination and we have big problem.

Yeah, you hoarders are the main problem, not govt incompetence. ;) I would not be surprised if things got bad for the govt to send forces house to house to confiscate supplies. It will be comply or die.

My house is walled and gated and holds the high ground. It'll keep dopers, petty thieves and starving children out. But someone with fire bombs, armed drones, or any kind of armored vehicle or even a .308 and lots of ammo, and we're toast.

Diversification and dummy stores is a good idea. Every six months I check the food stores. Stuff expiring goes in a special area to eat soon or give away. Stuff that has expired I make decoy boxes. "Here's half our food officer... as demanded at gun point." Anything beyond about 2 yrs past date is tossed, for now.

What's new here? Same thing has been said about toilet paper and ammo hoarders in 2020. No, no one went after you in 2020 and no one will go after you now.

What’s new? $6 a gallon diesel, baby food shortage, war in Europe, millions of illegals, fentanyl, bird flu jumping to mammals, Lake Meade empty …. Confiscation might not be probable, but it’s certainly possible.

I read earlier this AM that there is no shortage of formula for illegals at the border.
I also read there was a bunch being sent to Ukraine in addition to the stockpiles for illegals.

Who are the real hoarders?

A Collection of Reports Bolshevism in Russia, 1919
With the exception of the Bolsheviks, the whole population is terrorised almost to a point of physical paralysis and imbecility. Slender supplies of even the simplest food are only to be had when the watch of the Bolshevik guard weakens, and three-quarters of the people are slowly starving to death. At the expense of the poor, hoarders see their chance to realise enormous profits.
History always repeats itself...

50 U.S. Code § 4512 - Hoarding of designated scarce materials

In order to prevent hoarding, no person shall accumulate
(1) in excess of the reasonable demands of business, personal, or home consumption, or
(2) for the purpose of resale at prices in excess of prevailing market prices,
materials which have been designated by the President as scarce materials or materials the supply of which would be threatened by such accumulation.
The President shall order published in the Federal Register, and in such other manner as he may deem appropriate, every designation of materials the accumulation of which is unlawful and any withdrawal of such designation. In making such designations the President may prescribe such conditions with respect to the accumulation of materials in excess of the reasonable demands of business, personal, or home consumption as he deems necessary to carry out the objectives of this chapter. This section shall not be construed to limit the authority contained in sections 4511 and 4554 of this title.
(Sept. 8, 1950, ch. 932, title I, § 102, 64 Stat. 799; July 31, 1951, ch. 275, title I, § 101(b), 65 Stat. 132.)

yeah, but they use dumb wordings all the time and like always just pass the blame onto some group - in this case hoarders. whatever that is, never heard of some great baby food hoarding problem before so, kind of seems made up -

for the people who want baby food, and possibly you might not be able to get the exact one you want, right now, with no planning at all for a baby for heaven's sake - people have fed babies for thousands and thousands of years, and if you have to make due without the special formula, or someone making puree foods for you, I think you can make it just fine for a few weeks or whatever. God help you and you're baby if you have one. You can do it!

Ah, isn't it good to see Socialism 101 up close and personal? Under socialism, the people are the enemy of the State. Just keep enacting laws, issuing edicts or decrees and vilifying until EVERYONE but the selected few are criminals. This is how they can dispose of anyone; at any time... because... well, they broke the law comrade.

Keep your door & mouth shut. Do your best to stay under the radar and unless you have a warehouse full of stuff there is probably little to worry about.
