As we all know, brown rice has a short shelf life, especially in hot/humid areas.
We had buckets of old brown rice, almost threw them away until I read a lady in Alaska and her family had come across this solution. They took a cup/two cups of brown rice, put in a bowl with water. Stirred in a TBSP of baking soda, stirred well, let it sit for 10-15 mins, stirred again and rinsed in strainer. Then used as directed.
When I tried it, and after it was cooked, no off odor, no off taste...was just as if it was new. So needless to say, we kept the brown rice and just bought more baking soda!
Didn't see this addressed anywhere, so thought you all could use this thought.
PS: OOPS wrong section...sorry
