when i first enlisted in the corp ,You could only drink in camp pendelton because they owned the land the base was on.The other bases were leased land from the states and thus had to follow state laws. There were no more or less problems than any other base.

I don't think "the drinking age" is the business of the state. I think parents need to teach their kids about drinking. In the end only education will have the desired effect. You can make the drinking age 30 and I bet you anything you want that teenagers will still get their hands on booze if they want to get drunk.

I had access to booze all my life and if I wanted a sip of this or that, my parents never denied it to me. To this day, I still have no serious interest in alcohol. I am 37 and I can count on my fingers the total number of times I've been drunk.

Restriction breeds deviance.

Yes it is the age of Majority. You are an adult. I also think that the driving age should be raised to 18...to be allowed to drive with out a supervising adult anyway.

Go young man you have reached adulthood. You may decide who will be our President, you may shed your life's blood upon the field for your country....but you better not have a drop of the devil's liquor or we will punish you sooo!

Yeah that makes sense. You are or you are not an adult.

Better off for the kids to have a good example of parents who can have a wine or beer with dinner, and never binge or get drunk. Let them start having their own small glass on special occasions as a kid.

If the parents come home and lie on the couch drinking a six pack, you can bet for sure the kids will finish keggers when they go to uni.

Denial from anything makes it the forbidden fruit. Why can't we have education to teach responsibility? Is there a belief that because they are 18 they cannot handle their alcohol? Then why do we allow them to vote? Or join the military? Or buy cigarettes? Or hold them accountable as an adult if they commit crimes?

One of the reasons for the decline of the U.S. is this notion that everything else is someone else's fault. Jeffery Dahmer ate people because he was abused as a child. Major Nidal Hasan shot all those soldiers because America is at war with Islam. Spanking children (responsible spanking) is detrimental to the mental welfare of a child. Violence on T.V. is responsible for the large spikes in crime. Owning firearms predisposes you to wanton acts of craziness. There comes a point where the person needs to be held accountable for their actions, and if our society has deemed that as 18 for most everything but the purchasing and consumption of alcohol, then we should allow it for that as well. JMHO.

We had our drinking age lowered from 20 to 18 a few years ago. The result?

14 yr old girls boozing up large at nightclubs. Hard to tell they're not 18 when they're all dollied up but 20? 20 is harder to fake. Who wants their 14 yr old daughter climbing out the window and getting drunk at a nightclub guys? Raise yr hands now! :D:

What? No hands?

So take three or four years off the legal drinking age and say 'is that what I want'? cos that's what actually happens despite everyone's best and most wonderful intentions.

Yes, if you are active duty military and only on base / post.

You’re old enough to be responsible to fight for your country; you are old enough to be responsible to drink WITHOUT excess.

The military carries very harsh penalties to those that abuse the privilege of drinking too much.

I am 19, could care less about the drinking age... But wouldnt mind seeing the CWP age dropped...
Write your state representatives and senators, recently the South Carolina supreme court ruled that the law requiring a person to be 21 to possess a handgun was unconstitutional. See SC Supreme Court Opinion No. 26494
Heard March 5, 2008 – Filed May 19, 2008. Maybe one of them would would file a bill to lower the CWP age, since you have a right to defend yourself, and a right to bear arms, but not being able to get a CWP hampers your ability to defend yourself.

As for the drinking age I think if your old enough to die for your country, you're old enough to drink. But really, I used to drink like a fish, until i turned 21. After that it lost some of it's fun and excitement, and that is part of the reason kids do it. Same reason they do other stuff because of the taboo of it. I still drink occasionally, but I rarely buy over a six pack, cause the rest will go bad before I get around to drinking them.

When they lowered it to where you could "own" them i jumped on that. I may write to the senators and reps soon. It would be kinda nice for my pistol to be more than something to hold the owners manual down in the dashboard. Especially in the store they transferred me to work in.... ummmm about that (enough said)

I say no. Even for Military. I was a Sgt in the Army and had to deal with way to many problems with Soldiers overseas.
I agree...a matter of discipline, which most 18 year olds don't have. That's why they have Sgts lookin after them :)

I absolutely think it should be lowered. I have done a number of research papers on the topic and the stats show a correlation between a higher drinking age and higher drinking issues. Alcohol is seen as taboo to many youth and thus it is abused.

To give you an idea...at 18 you can buy a rifle, OWN A BAR in some states, become an EMT, be in a porn, buy porn, have an ********, serve in the military, be drafted, BE TRIED AS AN ADULT, become a pilot, drive, and much much more.

I dont believe a beer is more dangerous than being a pilot with 200+ lives in your hands or being in the military.
