Crazy vs crazy

As I was getting ready to leave my friend's house, she turned on the TV for the night. There was a documentary on about Mick Dodge. It started with him holding up a pine cone on a stick, and asked the cameraman/audience what they thought it was used for. I said either food (pine nuts) or kindling. He said toothbrush and proceeded scrubbing his mouth with it (personally, I would much rather chew on a pine twig, but to each their own!)
All this time my friend is grimacing and muttering about crazy people (Mick AND me for knowing any use of a pine cone besides maybe Christmas decoration).

As the narration continued about that he lives out in the wild, barefoot, for the last 20 years after one day deciding to just ditch out on civilization. I said "Wow, I wish I could do that!" and my friend (who doesn't even like trailer camping) said "Ha! You're going to hunt and fish in the middle of winter?" and I said "Well no, because if I did it by choice, I'd move to some place like Georgia or Florida where there really is no winter".

So apparently I'm crazy. But I think she's crazy because she's stuck dependent on civilization to live. Her version of roughing it is a cheap motel (bed and shower are a must!).

That kinda craZy is the new normal.

I remember growing up when we thought only rich people bought canned/frozen or semi prepared food. We weren't rich, so we had to grow/can/cook our own.
