Confessions of a grey man.

I freely admit I am what most would consider to be a “grey man” prepper.

That is from all outward appearances I am a sheeple.

I live in a sheeple neighborhood,

Our family car is a sheeple style mini van, ( I think the wife still has a soccer mom thingy in the window)

I dress like a sheeple (suit and tie for business, polo and Dockers for leisure.

I don’t have a “food garden” in the back yard we have a “flower garden” and I grow a few tomatoes etc…

My family and I don not speak of our preps, our BOL our BOB’s or anything of a political or religious nature that may raise suspicions to who we really are.

Our preps are well hidden in the basement. It is “off limits” to company because that also where my office is.

Very private you see.

I have only been to the local shooting range on one occasion and then as a guest of a business associate.

“It wasn’t my cup of tea” was my reasoning for not returning or joining for that matter.

I am seriously starting to rethink my reasons for removing the American flag from the outside of my home and flying the Gadsden.

The neighbors are starting to whisper, not that I care what the neighbors think but I am now concerned this may call attention to the very thing I have worked for over 12 years to prevent.

Removing myself from the grid and the scrutiny of those living around me.

In the event of a SHTF and we cannot get to the BOL right away I want to be thought of as just another poor unarmed smuck who only had about a weeks worth of food in the house, and only half a tank of gas in the truck.

They can wonder where I went and how I was able to leave after me and mine are long gone.

So what say you is this the way to go or is there a good reason to be an obvious prepper?

I think you have the right idea. It's pretty much the way my husband and I think.

Everyone who knows us knows we have guns and know how to use them, though. I don't think it hurts for people to know that we have a way to defend ourselves against attack and hopefully, it will deter those who wish to do us harm.

We have only told a handful of people, those we intend to band together with, about our preps. While we won't be able to turn away a starving friend or neighbor, we feel it's best not to let those around us know just how much we have.

I thought grey men were aliens. :D:

I think it does give us the upper hand in a SHTF, then we can be the ones to pick and choose who we might want to help and who we let to their own fate.

sounds kind of mean but it may be the reality of it.

BTW grey men ARE aliens dear...

i think you should hang one of those silly "seasonal/holiday" flags from your front step, or mail box. if you have one of those, NOBODY will think your anything but a sheeple for sure.:thumb:
I am leaning that way.

Possibly a college football team flag.

Sounds good, I would change the flag. The only weak spot I see is when it's time to GOOD, you will be vulnerable to nosy neighbors when loading out the mini van. " Hey Saint whatcha doin going on a vacation or something?"
yes I’m thinking you are spot on with the flag.

We load our van and truck inside the garage.

As far as the neighbors are concerned if it is dark out when we Bug Out no one will know we are gone until they break in...

So you're saying I should remove our "THE END IS NEAR!!! " sign from the front lawn? :)
that and stop having the wife lay down suppression fire every time you go out to check the mail.... :D:

or am I the only one who does this?

Wouldn't it just be easier to say "were taking up hiking" it works for me.

My boss and even the lady I buy my gear from just thinks I'm a hiker who doesn't want gear that is the brightest color known to man.

Most normal families have a hobby

This way you can mask your intentions make your neighbors more self reliant and still slip away if need be.

My phrase " you should carry something, might I reccomend..." makes everyone a little more reliant.
And eases the stress of being grey.

my neighbors know i have guns. i shoot on my property ALOT. but as one neighbor said to me. "nearly every single house out here in the country has a gun, yours is the last one that anyone is going to try and get into if they know whats good for them." my home is NOT an easy target yet it doesnt look like a particularly promising spot for refuge, so those peope that dont know about my preps arnt liky to come knocking, and those that do know about them know better then to come around. while opsec is important, sometimes a health dose of respect(or fear) works wonders too.

Agreed and our BOL is like that.

But where we live and work from is in town and worse yet in a semi gated association.

Which is code for "everyone wants to know everyone else’s business".
