Evacuation in Hawaii

Just letting you know the update going on here in Hawaii. Warning sirens will sound at 6:00 am to evacuate for all low lying areas of all islands. It's now almost 5:00 am. Tsunami may hit after 11:00 am Hawaii Time. But people are bugging out right now.

My home is getting a flood of phone calls from friends and family, asking if they can come up here to where we live and "camp out." We live in one of the higher mountainous communities on the island we are on - 1400 feet above sea level and 8 miles in from the beach. This is why we moved up here, so it's comforting to know that we made a providential decision like this. My husband always wanted us to move to beach front property, but I told him - NO WAY! Maybe beautiful (hello, we're in Hawaii, why not?!), but too many risks. Now our decision is paying off.

We'll update you all as time gets near. We've had several of these warnings over the years - most have been "waveless." I'm just very grateful that there's been sufficient warning for everyone and that we live up a mountain. Also, if the electricity were to go out, we're ready and we've got 4 months of food. Thanks to many of you and your valuable knowledge and information!

I got woken up at 4:30 am from a friend of mine warning of this tsunami....been up since then with last minute preps (water, gas, etc.).

We live about 1/4 mile from the coastline here on the west side of Oahu. We'll be climbing up the mountain here with the kids and dogs. People have already started climbing up. Hope this isn't really bad.:(

Hello fellow local person!

Howzit Rina! I'm here in Hawaii too, not stating what exact island, but I now have 30 adults and 12 children at my house. We're up here on a mountain. Keep us updated of the Wai`anae Coast and what's going on. I heard roads are pretty clogged and people are trying to go up Makakilo. Keep up the Aloha Spirit. Nice to meet someone from Hawai`i!

I just heard that the expected Tsunami waves heading for Hawaii are more towards the 12 - 15 foot mark.......that was from a feed from one of the scientist guys that actually monitor these things IN HAWAII.......

Hopeing for the best.....stay safe all of you!............

I guess the watches and warnings are going all ove rthe entire pacific basin!.......even to British Columbia in Canada.......so I would imagine the SO CAL is in that line ......lol......

Well another update. It's now after 9 am. I have close to 30 adults and at least 15 children in our home. More are on their way. I've lost count, but everyone is being great and bringing in food and water with themselves. Good friends and family of our friends have been coming to our house since 5 am. Someone's mom just came in from kidney dialysis and is resting on our spare bed. I have only used some of my stored food, since everyone is being so giving and bringing whatever they had in their pantries.

Once again, the coastline roads will be shut down in 45 minutes and people in hotels or apartment buildings are being evacuated vertically. Those in coastline areas are heading up the mountains. I live in a mountainous community which is why so many friends and church family headed up here. Sam's Club opened it's doors to the public and I heard that they're letting 10 shoppers in at a time. The line of cars wraps around the block. Gas stations have long lines. Stores have run out of water and different foods. The usual last minuteness and panic. I'm glad I prepped and up here where it's calm.

We are recharging the last of the batteries in case this goes into the night. I'm cooking a lot of food just in case the electricity goes out. Constantly rotating the pitchers of water and iced tea.

It's a beautiful day here despite what's about to happen.

More updates soon.

Thoughts and prayers are with you and your family and friends.

Watching the news now, lots of sheeple standing on the road just off the shoreline looking for the wave. But, it doesn't surprise me. Just waiting to see a surfer waiting for the 'big one'.

OK, saw news feeds of surfers on the waves. :headshake:

Disappointed with the news video feeds. Poor video, tapped into the web feeds, where are the news channels HD cameras? Enquiring minds want to see.

Best wishes to all effected.

Well newest update: I am a "Waveless Tsunami Survivor"! It's now about 1:30 pm.

Nothing has really happened. Hilo, on the Big Island, experienced 3 waves that were minor, but people are still being cautioned to remain at their homes and keep the roads clear. The roads are still closed around the coastal areas in case of latent waves, so the people at my house still can't head home. So now we're cooking lunch and all the kids from different families have become best friends as only children can.

I went on our roof to watch any recession of water, but there was nothing accept the water seemed a little sandy/brown in color rather than light or deep blue.

Well I'm glad we still have electricity and I can type this. Thanks for all your prayers. I'm hearing of reports of an increasing death toll in Chile. I feel bad for them.
