:rolleyes:I'm confused here. He votes for gun bans, ammo taxes etc. in his state ...but will not work for the same goals as President with a Democratic House and Senate??Is he going to vote against these things when Nancy & Harry brings them to his desk? Obama: Gun owners do not need to stock up

As gun sales shoot up around the country, President-elect Barack Obama said Sunday that gun-owning Americans do not need to rush out and stock up before he is sworn in next month.

"I believe in common-sense gun safety laws, and I believe in the second amendment," Obama said at a news conference. "Lawful gun owners have nothing to fear. I said that throughout the campaign. I haven't indicated anything different during the transition. I think people can take me at my word."

But National Rifle Association spokesman Andrew Arulanandam said it's not Obama's words — but his legislative track record — that has gun-buyers flocking to the stores.

"Prior to his campaign for president, his record as a state legislator and as a U.S. Senator shows he voted for the most stringent forms of gun control, the most Draconian legislation, gun bans, ammunition bans and even an increase in federal excise taxes up to 500 percent for every gun and firearm sold," Arulanandam said.

Obama answered "yes" in 1996 to a questionnaire from an Illinois group on whether he supported a handgun ban. But he later said a staffer filled out that answer and he did not support a ban.

Nationally, background checks for gun purchases jumped nearly 49 percent during the week Obama was elected, compared with the same time period last year, according to the FBI's National Instant Background Check System.

Anecdotally, gun dealers around the country have reported spikes in sales. The Illinois State Rifle Association Reports gun sales for November were 38 percent higher than last year.

"We don't dispute [the gun sales hike] because the numbers from the federal system certainly confirm that there is increased activity out there. We just think it's a bit stupid," said Peter Hamm, spokesman for the Brady Campaign against Gun Violence.

"Anyone who thinks they need to rush out and buy a firearm clearly has not been paying attention to how quickly we make progress on this issue. We don't think these are first-time buyers. We think they are people who already have more than enough guns at their homes to protect themselves and are buying more."

I don't believe any socialist. I will continue to purchase those items I deem necessary.

Politicians will say anything. The only way to get the truth out of them is to look at their record. Obama can say he won't harm the Second Amendment, but his record in Illinois says different.

The economy is going to take a lot of his time for at least the first six month, or do you think he will find the time to push through an AWB as soon as he takes office?

I dont for a second believe this guy. He will do his best to push something through as early as he can... I wonder if enough Dems will remember their pasting in the 1996 elections as a result of the 94 AWB and not push this?

Whether Obama has plans or not, he is not putting them through at this time. Meanwhile, the god damned firearms dealers are having a field day gouging prices on high capacity magazines and claiming there's a shortage because supposedly people are buying them all due to some possible future action Obama might take. Talk about cashing in on people's fears. ;> DPMS raised their prices from 12.00 to 20.00 almost immediately after election announcements. I've still got my receipt from OCtober purchasing 3 mags at 12 bucks each.

So yeah, talking about what Obama MIGHT do..whatever. Meanwhile the manufacturers and vendors *are* most assuredly raising prices and adding to the illusion that these things are going away with the new president.

Is there an actual shortage? I have my doubts. How about you?

News flash, its not the dealers, its the manufacturers and wholesalers. My local dealer gives me all firearms at 25$ over his cost plus shipping. (He's been a friend of mine since 2nd grade) Guess what? His cost have been skyrocketing, he shows me that new price sheets whenever they come out. Please, put the blame where it due dealers don't make much, the only reason they're making money is due to volume, not mark-up. (well the vast majority of them, there are a few douche bags with FFLs out there)

Yes, prices ARE bring raised...

Firearms (Traditionally)have the SMALLEST markup of just about ANYTHING...

And the markup's arn't that much... It's people (Like myself)

who RESELL items for more than they were going for...

SURE, some places raise their prices By a good % (Say $100- $150 per WASR)

SO WHAT?

Look up Classic Arms's Stats. (THey announced them)

They've sold more since the ellection (By a good bit) than the rest of the YEAR!

As to their being a shortage... I KNOW there's a shortage.

How do I know?
I have several buddies with FFL's... and one has CLOSE (Multigenerational) relationship with DISTRIBUTERS who are out.

I also have friends who work at various manufacturers... they tell me, And I'm confident that they are telling me the truth. (Why would they lie... I've already bought all I'm going to from them and we're on good terms)

I also have a good idea of how much companies (not individual stores) carry in stock, because in the past I have bought out the stock of severa lof them on various items.

Rest assured...

-THere IS a high demand. (Even Hussain has remarked on it)
-Companies are doing a SLIGHT markup...but it's still lower than TYPICAL markup in other items (Electronics, even FOOD)
-SOME companies (Cheaper than Dirt JUMPING AK47 ammo up to $500 bux a case November 6thish) ARE gouging... don't order from them.
-Companies are PAYING more... because more people want more stuff... (More $ chasing Less product... raised costs. we went over that in Freshman Economics.)
-There are still deals to be had...

I dumped $4,000 into AK47 mags reciently... I told everyone about it... So if you chose not to... Don't fuss at me in 6 months when I want $15- $20 a peace for them.

Hmmm. The last time the Democrats tried and got an AWB in place it burned their little fingers like a hot rock out of an oven. The AWB backfired on them and cost them a number of political seats in both the House and the Senate. I'm beginning to wonder if Obama's handlers are still smarting from the last AWB and now KNOW BETTER??? If so, Obama may just be telling the truth for once. There was some talk a few years ago about the national Democrats avoiding, like the plague, anything at all to do with a second AWB because they don't want to lose control of Congress again...

Yo uwilling to bet (All the guns you want but don't have) on that.

JMHO I don't think we'll see AWB2 at first...

But there's ALOT that they can do 'cutting around the edges'

Like the EO's Norinco guns and ammo...

Ban IMPORTATION of mags... just like the ATF 'decided' we couldn't import barrels...

etc..
