Just wondering if any users here had experience with them, any info you could give me on them, and what you think of the accuracy.

I am possibly looking at purchasing a Century Arms CETME. I've read and heard both good and bad. There is a used one with wood furniture at a shop near me and they are asking $625 for it.

The only drawback here is, another caliber to stock up on, and an expensive one at that!

there were alot of problems with century CETMEs.

I was not impressed with the accuracy, strange sort of recoil to. I could get over all that, for me the egronomics of the weapons were horrible and it lacked many features that I have come to value.

Mags are cheap , but if I was going to stock a whole new round such as 308 I would get something that is well known as being a reliable and accurate. I saw a FAL on ARFCOM a few days ago for 825, I would sooner go that route.

If you do buy it give us a review.

Sorry bro had to edit that for you. You used one to many words in that statement and a past -v- present thing.

;)
Yeah, Doc, that's why I'm so hesitant. It's hard to siphon the crap off the surface of the 'truth pond' when you're researching by reading articles, but by and large, what I read is positive about this rifle. Apparently the receivers are made by a leading CNC company somewhere in the US, and the barrels are new U.S. made as well....hard for me to come to any sort of conclusion.

I need to find someone who owns one who isn't full of BS to give me the straight facts on this thing.

my cetme runs like a champ and I know of two others with high round counts that are running great. Onew downside is that spare parts are drying up.

What cetme said... I own a Century Arms CETME Sporter, which originally had a ground bolt, and a lot of other issues. It REALLY is hit-or-miss on getting a good firearm from Century. After I fixed ALL the Century faux pah's, My CETME works well. I also have a PTR-91, which is a clone of the HK-91. The guys at militaryfirarm.com have TONS of experience, and can give lot's of good advice on currently owned, but also future purchases. Give a look...

Cetme's around here are usually in the $600 range. I looked at a couple at a local shop. Compared to a FAL,the ergonomics of a cetme seem awkward.Safety was harder to access, mag release is on the wrong side. Both had really gritty feeling actions. Were me,I'd look for a PTR 91 for a couple hundred more. Or just get a FAL or M1A.

my cetme shoots fine the only real issue I have ever had with it it has a bad tendancy to foul out the chamber and overall a pain to clean but I like it.but when the money comes in I'm getting an M14 and using the cetme as back up

My Century CETME cost me about $550 in excellent, barely used condition. It shot fine out of the box, but it required 200+ rounds of ammo through it before it smoothed up and started feeling "right". I bought it as a secondary rifle with long-range accuracy and better knockdown power (i.e. terminal ballistics) than my ARs. I wanted something with a higher volume of fire than my bolt-action Mosin-Nagants, since I couldn't see justifying the expense of an M1A...

As things turned out, I got a steal on a LNIB Springfield M1A, so now the CETME is really just a SHTF backup to that rifle. At least it is sturdy and battle proven, and the mags are cheap, so I figure I'll keep it until I am certain my need for it even in a survival situation would be minimal...

I bought a used Cetme a few years ago. I have not tested at a long range. I also know someone who has one. We both encountered the same issues. The guns get dirty fast, then they have feeding problems. If you can get a round to "chamber" often there’s too much dirt for the firing pin to properly engage the primer. The good part is that Cetmes are easy to field strip. The bad part is putting them back together. The cleaning cans designed to clean your firearm assembled can be a big help with this problem.

Here's a video of a cetme extracting without an extractor. It also shows you how to reasemble it without tools.

I was looking into getting a Cetme, but I've heard things about the lack of a heat shield causing the forearm to heat up. Some of the people whose articles I was reading put the wide G3 forearm on their CETMEs (because it has a heat shield) but I think that requires modifying the barrel. If not, please correct me, as this gun interests me as well.

Saw 4 cetme's today at different shops. 2 good 2 bad(bolt carrier probs) $649 new. No way getting around hot handguards on cetme's. The reciever heats up quick and stays that way for a long time, use nomex gloves on high round count days.

For the record I have never fired one, I have however worked on them. The one I messed with had a gas tube that was bent and welded out of wack. Needless to say, it jammed when fired.
Also for the record I own a Century WASR-10. This particular weapon has a record about as good as the CETME. Mine, so far, has functioned flawlessly.
Its worth what you paid for it.

I have not used anything but milsurp in mine. The commercial brass has a danger of case seperation which would put your rifle out of commission unless you have a ruptured case extraction tool. Which I don't.

On the CETME; What gas tube are you speaking of?

For keltoboi;
Regarding ammo; DO NOT SHOOT INDIAN (...as in the country) AMMO!!! Extremely poor Q&A, dirty, and causes CETMES to GRENADE (possibility). The CETME was designed to shoot 7.62 NATO rounds. Generally, MILSURP is going to be cheaper than 7.62 Win (Factory) ammo. I would go for South African, or Ingman (SP?) MILSURP. The only disadvantage is availability, and cost. Although it's still cheaper than factory. South African 7.62 NATO in 1260 round cases goes for about $650.00 USD up here.

You might start rolling your own... Even cheaper!

thanks reloader 26D the cetmes we can legally purcase here in spain are in .307 cal only (7.62X51 barrel & chamber) only the bolt face has been enlargened, however, 7.62x51 spanish milsurp works great! i speak from experience because i tryed some just yesterday and no problems occured with feeding, firing or extraction.

either way im loading my own :)
