Has anyone here seen what I have seen, which is major stores only taking credit cards. Fast food places that have a sign outside (or inside) that says "To protect our staff and our customers please pay with a credit card."

I think by the end of the year no one will be taking cash. Might be time to deposit whatever cash you have now before it is just pretty colored paper.

Cash is too easy a vector for disease.

Definitely not my experience, but I never pay with cash unless I'm at a cannabis dispensary.

Cash is a hassle. I don't want change back, I don't want to carry change, and I don't want the extra step of washing my hands after touching bills that probably were up the nostril of a fiend a week prior.

Cash is for stashing away shoebox style, or under the table transactions, and when I can't find a straw to bang a 7 gram rock.

its a catch 22..i pulled cash out and still have funds in bank, but cash it still king for now...i have not been denied service because i paid in cash, did it today to buy supplies, no issues...

there will have to be laws/decrees before cash is worthless in which case your metals/bullets/guns and food/400 1oz mini bottles of liquor become the method of exchange....

remember, if you dont have the cash in your possession, you are just an unsecured debtor w zero options....

i can always deposit the cash back after/if this clears, but if they enforce limits i am ****ed...

i do not like to get ****ed by .civ or .gov so i plan accordingly, you can take up the ass...

That push started with the Leftist Minnenals buying their Star Bucks with a CC
That has been going on for quite while probably because most of them have Mommy and Daddies CC

Nobody’s touched my credit card in 2 months but me. Airline, the occasional taxi drivers and farm store took it earlier this year. Gun dealers do Dr office last year. NAPA dealer maybe.

I can tell you from owning a business, 10s and smaller stay in our cash drawer for less than an hour on average, 20s half a day (50% used as change, 50% for deposit or tipout), and 100s 2-3 days before deposit.

Cash isLIFO, the Last dollar received is the next out, unless it goes in the tip jar.

While 90% of transactions in korea are digital, in japan 4 out of 5 transactions are still in cash. Many shops only accept cash to avoid transaction fees and online security problems. With lower crime people are not afraid to carry big wads of cash. Checking accounts are mostly for businesses.

With curbside pickup here they give your credit card back wrapped in a wet wipe.

A lot of places in Australia say they prefer cards, and often they won't touch them. You have to put your own card through the machine. I heard a 2nd hand report of someone who filled their petrol tank, then the attendant refused to take her cash. She said I have a full tank, you either take legal tender, or I drive off. He took the cash!!

I think they are legally required to take cash. If they don’t, record the details, drive off and call the cops to advise what happened. If they have an issue they can sue you, but as you offered legal tender that don’t have a leg to stand on. You might still be required to make payment, but you won’t be in trouble for them refusing legal tender.

Our pharmacy asks that you keep a card on file and if that is not possible that you bring exact change in cash. We put the card on file.
A bead shop up on the rez is open (in person, by appointment only) no browsing allowed, bring a list, wear a mask, get what you need and get out. They have the same policy.
Neither of them want to handle even a card. But I can't see either business (or many others) surviving by not accepting cash at all.

I'd still rather finger **** the keypad than handle bills, as dirty as the keypad is, I think bills are even dirtier.

I do recommend Samsung Pay though, if you use a Samsung. Much better than Apple pay imo, works on any card reader, and there is no touching anything, you just hover your phone over the card reader.

No doubt using a card is easier than cash, I admit my transactions are mostly cashless, which has more to do with my ability to acquire cash than using cash. For me branch tellers and ATM's are far and few between especially the ATM's that don't charge transaction fees.

I see inherent dangers in a cashless system, any serious disruption to the system would leave everyone truly cashless.

With a key stroke you can either be penniless or have new found wealth...for all it's benefits cashless has become way too easy. Easy to use easy to manipulate easy (for those with a proclivity for theft) to steal from.

Sure, cashless has it's benefits but it still needs a safety net...hard currency.

We’ve changed how we pay for groceries in the last month.

we have direct deposit so on payday we’d go to CU and get cash for groceries/dining out for two weeks.

now we use debit card at the 2 main stores then go to CU for cash for carryout meals and incidentals.

Even if card readers are wiped down, the card itself goes INSIDE the
machine. And I have not seen anybody wiping down gas pump readers.

In the current situation this is a dilemma. I really like swiping or inserting
at the pump. I don't have to go inside; and the transaction is much faster.

Howdy!

I did see a person in line at Walmart yesterday in front of me count out five one hundred dollar bills and ask that it be placed on a Walmart card. I thought that very unusable as he had paid for quite a ot of groceries using a credit card.

No places around our town refuses cash except the local Donut shop which has a sign for the last 40 years saying cash only, he's done this for years to screw the California tax board.

Only other place that has a sign saying "No Cards only Checks and Cash" is a small diner at the Old Airport which has been up for years, places around us has the employees wearing gloves and mask.
