“We need bold action,” said California Governor Gavin Newsom on Wednesday. Shortly before that statement, Newsom issued an executive order mandating that all new passenger vehicles sold in the state to be zero-emission by 2035.

The governor said bluntly, “CA is phasing out the internal combustion engine. By 2035 every new car sold in CA will be an emission free vehicle.”

Companies might start doing that for them. Except there's a lot of money to be made off the idiots.

Notice the part about, "If you like your car, you can keep your car". Where have we heard that before.

“You can still keep your internal combustion cars,” said the governor. “You can still trade them, sell them [used]. We are not taking them away.”
Next up, outlaw gasoline.

I bet Tesla stock is up.

California has rolling blackouts like Venezuela because their electrical grid can't handle the load, Their state is on fire because of poor forest management and the homeless population is out of control, High taxes, high crime, highly incompetent leadership from their education system to the state legislature and it goes on and on and on...

Well, I had no plans to move there before this brilliant move, so they can keep being CA, just wish they'd all stop moving to other states & voting for the same dumb **** they voted for that made them leave in the first place. Liberals are like locusts.

That's great news for PPGE because they are the only game in town and can further get away without maintaining their exploding high pressure natural gas lines and sparking electrical transmission lines.

No PPGE executives need to miss another day of playing golf for fear of incarceration!

California is, realistically and if you look hard at the unfunded government pensions, broke.

Despite what Newsolini says about it being the 5th largest economy in the world.

This isn't going to help any, but the .gov in CA only cares about advancing policy. Good luck when it's only Democrats and tumbleweed in this cursed place.

GDP also includes calculations for government spending, including government employees. For instance, Cali’s bankrupt high speed railway would contribute to positive GDP growth. So would a bunch of illegals getting benefits. Now, I’m no economist, so you all can correct me if I’m wrong. This is my simple understanding.

Wasn’t Venezuela recently in the top GDP rank? High GDP doesn’t necessarily mean solvent and flourishing. With all the fraud and manipulation of data, it’s hard to take any of it seriously.

https://tradingeconomics.com/venezuela/gdp

The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in Venezuela was worth 482.36 billion US dollars in 2014, according to official data from the World Bank and projections from Trading Economics. The GDP value of Venezuela represents 0.40 percent of the world economy.

Yes. Plus my 3rd year on fire watch. They’re evacuating now, again, less than 30 miles South of me. A month ago we were surrounded, again, by evacuations. Last year part of my town was evacuated. But October is the really fun month! Candle light for days on end @nd no running water! Again. :thumb::rolleyes:

Why update the grid? They would defeat the purpose of keeping us in a constant state of panic and fear! Ya know, they need to pump these dollars out of us and fear is their vehicle.

Electric cars are, in fact, coal fired cars. They are not “green” as they claim. If you plug them into an outlet the electricity has to come from somewhere and be generated in some fashion. Some of it is relatively clean if it comes from hydro-electric dams, but most is generated by coal-fired generation. Perhaps some comes from nuclear power plants, and that has its own issues as well.

It is a lie that electric cars are environmentally friendly.

Truly a state chock full of morons. Only in a place like that could a man like Newsom become governor.

Not much else to add here other than I’m so extra glad I left that place almost a decade ago and moved back to a free state.

I lived there for 5 years. Beautiful geography - the best hiking and camping I’ve ever experienced - but my God, how could anyone with a brain continue to live there after they hit the age of 30?

Sadly CA will export millions of liberals in the next few years to surrounding states and they will bring with them all of their crappy views that made CA crappy. It’ll turn TX and others blue. Simple demographics.

CA has a whole lot of conservatives but they ain’t the ones leaving on a large scale.

I wonder if Newsom made this idiotic statement from the comfort of his private jet... Lol he really went out on a limb on that one by proclaiming 15 years from now. Hell, by 2035 people will all be driving electric cars or using some form of transportation without his bloviating.

I’m eagerly awaiting for Musk to build an all electric motorhome.... plenty of room for solar panels. Mine gets nine miles to the gallon on a good day but with all the solar on the roof I don’t have much need for the generator or the 30 amp power cord much these days.

If newsome isn't careful the people might just recall him: https://recallgavin2020.com/

Even some of the whack job leftists are growing tired of his shenanigans. From what I am reading for the first time in many many years more are moving out vs. those that are coming in.

Here's the problem. Newsom is following the radical left agenda.

He mentions that the poor air quality is bad enough with the fires, so. Being rid of these ice vehicles is what we really need to focus on.

He doesn't want people to know that everything associated with the forests are completely under funded. 90 billion for a high speed rail, no problem. Money to have resources available? He doesn't care about that.

90 billion buys a lot of resources, fire fighting resources. Which we don't have because of this scum bag.

In all fairness he won’t have to. We may not have majority electronic trucks by 2035 or even large vehicles ( think Chevy suburban ) but most cars and crossovers will be electric.

The electric technology will just be cheaper and better performing by then.

We are already seeing hybrids and electrics that can outperform internal combustion cars on the track.

And it’s expected that this year batteries will fall below 100 per KW. That’s the level at which an electric car becomes cheaper to manufacture than an IC car.

Nobody is gonna pay extra for a gas powered car unless they need one OR don't have access to charging stations. So look for all the less expensive cars to be only offered in electric.

Honda civics , Toyota Corolla , Nissan Versa /Sentra , etc. just won’t be offered any other way. And on the few cars that are , gas power will become an option that costs extra.

I’m skeptical about electric trucks however. And I wouldn’t expect to see electric 18 wheelers anytime soon.

Except for the little fact that there isnt enough electricity available to power those vehicles. What do you think electricity prices will do if demand > availability while crippling availability at the same time with intermittant sources.

For ****s and giggle look up your state usage of gas and diesel. Convert that to energy multiply by 0.25 ( from 0.2/.8) .... That is roughly the amount of electrical energy that is needed to replace ICE vehicles by EVs.

I guess there are folks living in California that never drive their car outside the city. I said "guess" because in the 32 yrs I lived there, I never met such a person. The vast majority of Californians live in a major city, and they use their vehicles to drive all over their state, and other western states.

True believers in electric car technogy always offer suggestions how the rest of us can alter our lifestyles, in order to use them. Now Govenor Newsom has signed an order to force people to alter their lifestyle. In my opinion, this is never going to happen in a state like California.

Take a look at a map of California. Where are the big cities? Where are the parks, beaches, mountains, skiing resorts, and great fishing? I used to live about mid way between LA and the Eastern Sierra, and I could watch a 300 mile traffic jam of cars returning to the city after a weekend skiing at Mammoth or June Lake.

A 300 mile long line of cars, and these folks are going to stop and recharge where. Just before I left, Tesla built the first charging station in my little town. Four charging spaces and a burger joint next door. They could build another dozen charging stations, with room to serve 1,000 cars and it still wont work.

This is ****ing Stupid, and I am glad I sold out, and moved five yrs ago.

#34 ·
Yep and don't forget about the literally bumper to bumper traffic jam on the 15 from Las Vegas to San Bernardino after a holiday weekend. That's 226 miles through the middle of no where.

You guys have it all wrong. Newsom is a visionary. This is his proposed replacement for the gasoline engine.

The California geniuses have been working on this since the 1960s. They have yet to get it to work, but they still have 15 years to get it right. Not a problem.
