Could someone help me to understand the best way to buy silver. I am leaning towards maybe getting some pre-65 "junk" bags. I just don't know how to do it exactly. Are there trustworthy sites that anyone recommends that I can buy through? Any help is appreciated. Thanks

use the search feature. There have been quite a few very informative posts on the subject, and I would summize that many will not repost that.

This should get you started... (pay close attention to anything Scruggs has to say. He KNOWS what he is talking about, and will not steer you in the wrong direction)

I buy and sell, I have a dealer that I do a ton of business with on both ends, I find out what local dealers are paying for "junk" silver coins and pay slightly higher.right now dealers are paying 8.5 or say 85.00 on a ten dollar roll of quarters. I may pay 90.00 from a private owner knowing that the dealers are selling for about 95.00-100.00

I prefer the Paper Rock Ammo approach.... ammo perforates person holding silver
Funny thing about this silver collector, I got ammo too. Seriously, stealing is stealing, and if you are stealing what is mine, I might be inclined to frown upon that. I mean like an AK47 frown.

Go to a big coin dealer or to a dealer at a gn show. Pay cash. Yes, buy the pre '65 coins, mostly quarters and halves. Get a few Morgan silver dollars too as they're very recognizable. Again, pay cash. Don't show any ID. If a dealr asks for ID, ask him how much you could buy without showing ID. (this would only be if you're buying several thousand $'s worth) If he still needs ID, walk away and find someone else.
They're a good buy right now with silver at about $10 an oz. Make sure you have everything else first though, bullets, bacon and beans, and yes, TP.

I've been buying silver for about a month now. I'm diversifying between Canadian and American coins, pre 67 and pre 65 respectively. The diversity comes with buying everything from morgan dollars and silver maple leafs, to dimes, quarters, 50c peices and special minted coins (Canadian Olympic coins). For a starter, I'd just pick up morgan or peace dollars, as they are scrap silver, but more people will know how much silver is in them.

Try to buy local, but they might be dry. I called my guy for a week straight, waiting for someone to bring some in, then I bought it all.
