I would guess that the local bubbas would loot any "camps" early-on in a SHTF.

Need to work on your OPSEC.

Why not drive to your BOL?

Speaking of which, you know you need a new BOL.

Once you find this BOL, consider a cache there.

OPSEC is important..here is why
Summer Camp - Summer camp is held the second week of August (Sunday to Sunday) at Camp Horseshoe, Carson Campsite. It is the Chester County Council Camp and covers about 1500 acres of forest and stream valley on the PA-MD border at Rising Sun, Maryland. The camp has swimming pool and dining facilities. Troop 4's campsite consists of four stockades and one cabin.

What is Opsec?

I won't drive to the BOL because I have no vehicle acces >.>

What makes you say I need a new BOL?

There really are no locals in the direct area.

Well, I *know* five different ways to start a fire, and I know a number of different styles of shelter. A rain coat during winter, probably not, but what happens if I wind up staying there past winter and into spring, or longer? A rain coat would be nice to have.

I am not saying ditch the rain coat. It seemed to be the only external protection you had listed. Given it is winter now, I wanted to be sure you had additional layers to protect yourself.

I mention the fire starters because you don't list lighters, matches, firesteels, etc.

Your list seemed more like an assault loadout than a bug out list. Maybe I misinterpreted your purpose, and you chose not to list those things that are common to most BOB.

I'd also vote for keeping the MREs. You can eat them cold (I actually think they are better that way) and you can use the "heaters" for multiple purposes. If each pack has 2,000 calories in it, one MRE will last you an entire day. You also get some form of a drink with it, gum.....AND you can use the "napkins" for toilet paper, and the "extra" ziplock type bag for storing things that need to be waterproofed.

But I don't know much about the Mountain House brand.

Well stocked with guns, but yes i would carry a few more cloths. Do you have a backup plan, i mean you know its there, who else does. what if you meet resistance, are you ready to loose the ones you bring type situation. these are just some things to ponder. i have 4 BOL's across 3 states, actually now that i think about it i have 5 BOL's all with supplies that i have put in those locals. i have a good firearm supply, reloading and new ammo supplies. food first aid. Along with what i bring with my bug Out Gear.

There is so much wrong with that plan of his that I'm just laughing. Oh, and he has only 9 posts, and just joined the forum this month. Maybe he's a troll, or just plain new at this. Either way, I question his ethics re: looting and squating.
I'm thinking he is quite young and playing a computer game in his head.

Perhaps he's just out of the Cub Scouts?

PS to add:
My BOB contains the following:
>Eastport backpack from school a couple years ago
>Field Stripped MREs (enough to support myself for a week without foraging)
>M4 carbine with seven 30 rd. magazines (5.56mm)
>1911 with five magazines (9 rd. .45 ACP)
>Pistol Belt
>H-suspenders
>two triple magazine 30rd. M-16 pouches
>two double magazine 1911 pouches
>enough water for 2 qts. per day for a week
>civil war style water filter (they work remarkably well)
>saw
>fixed-blade knife
>pocket-knife
>small multi-tool
>weapons cleaning kit
>rain coat
LOL there are only four items in the bag that are not weapons/weapon-esk
LOL This has to be a little kid :D:

Third: I have BOL

A cabin along the way is our target.
{snip}

Chances are good that we ourselves will resort to looting to get anything that we didn't get the chance to get prior to TSHTF...

There's a small cabin on the property that would be perfect. There is a well-stocked first aid station on the property, a shotgun and rifle range, as well as a big lake with lots of stuff, and a nice little building full of a lot of nice camping gear... {SNIP - more blather about stealing other people's property}
You sound like a real upstanding little boy.
Really paying attention to the Scouting philosophy aren't you?

I guess all that stuff about being:
  • Trustworthy
  • Loyal
  • Helpful
  • Friendly
  • Courteous
  • Kind
  • Obedient
  • Cheerful
  • Thrifty
  • Brave
  • Clean
  • and Reverent
...just kinda gets in the way of your stealing and looting, right?

What next, maybe take a life or two? What the heck, go for broke at this point :thumb:

There's probably something I'm missing that I packed and didn't list. If there is, I'll add it on.

Anywho, me and the up to ten people that I'm bringing with me are shouldering our packs, and heading towards State College, PA. A cabin along the way is our target. It's about a four day hike from where I live, but I'm allowing for about a week travel time just in case.

There's a small cabin on the property that would be perfect. There is a well-stocked first aid station on the property, a shotgun and rifle range, as well as a big lake with lots of stuff, and a nice little building full of a lot of nice camping gear.

Chances are good that we ourselves will resort to looting to get anything that we didn't get the chance to get prior to TSHTF. The rifles present on the range are .22LR rifles that use a rolling-block action (essentially a lever-action, but it doesn't have a magazine). The shotgun range has a few 12 gauge shotguns. Both are heavily stocked with ammunition.

The cabin itself is pretty nice. Two-rooms. Kitchen, fireplace, lots of beds for sleeping in, lots of room for gear storage, some cabinets, a table, a refrigerator, a few appliances, etc. There is a lot of wood nearby, and there is a small storage shed just outside. Very nice little place, and its perfect for us.
I'm sorry but I'm not impressed with your load out or your plan. Any fixed campground owned by a well known public entity such as the BSA will be targeted by folks a lot tougher and badder than your group.

At best you will have a long hike, only to be supprised and disappointed to find the site already occupied. Worst case is the real bad guys kill you and split your gear.

Find a unknown and unoccupied location. Cache your gear in secret. I mean from everyone including your other group members.

Opsec means leave out as many details as you can when posting on any public forum or Coms devices. I have to catch my self and edit posts at times. Never miss a good chance to shut your mouth.

This is no longer relevant, because the OPSEC for it has been compromised. I have a newer, better area decided on, etc.

It's not funny. I'm a Life scout, for one, I'm 16, going on 17 (no Sound of Music references >.>)

Also, the "pistol belt" is just a web ALICE belt for carrying a load. It's called a "pistol belt", but really doesn't necessarily mean a pistol is carried on it. A lot of those items are survival-related equipment. Fixed-blade and pocketknives are for survival, saw is for cutting wood for fire, etc. A bow saw isn't exactly a weapon that could ever be used effectively.

Question.....

Do people only come here to give information?

Or to get it also?

My 2cents.
Not sure what you mean?

If I must take a life, I will, but only in self defense. If you had actually read the rest of the thread, i actually clarified that I a) am legally able to use the cabin, b) when I said "looting", I was referring to getting medical supplies from the first aid station, using .22 shells from the rifle range, etc. Besides, this plan is scrapped anyways. So leave me be.

can you tell us more about this civil war style water filter, Ive never heard of it...tia:thumb:
Union forces during the civil war (not sure about the South) had a small water filter kit that they were issued that were primarily powered by a hand pump (like the ones they use for blood pressure?), a tube, and a piece of cloth or foam-like stuff soaked in charcoal. Really simple, but very effective.

Flag number one, is it yours?
Flag number two, why walk if you dont have to?
Flag three, have you done any dry runs?

2 and 3 dont matter if you havent answered yes to number one.
1: in part. it's owned by my scout troop.
2: My town is not able to be left without jumping on to a major highway. I'd rather not get caught in an enormous traffic jam.

Thanks, but I have already scrapped this plan (as stated twice earlier), and have a new one, which is only being shared with people that are explicitly trusted and have no idea how to find the place anyways. Thank you. Could a mod please lock this thread?

wOw .. Just HOW do you plan to carry all of that weight realistically ??????

You think you will be the only one armed ?? Who do you think you are that you find it OK to STEAL from other people who worked and paid for that they have? It is your same mentality that I realized exists, and drove me to get armed to protect my home and my life. YOU MUST KNOW .. that I will damn well fight back should you try to take what is mine
