What kind of gun(s) would you keep in your vehicle/bag or on your person for a bug out gun
Not enough information given... What is the purpose of the gun ? City ? Country ? Long term survival with it ? Fight your way back home ? Defend against hordes of Zombies ?

When SHTF a Handgun is a underpowered defensive weapon suitable for fighting your way to your battle rifle. If your in a highly populated area, you need a rifle with a fast rate of fire and large magazine capacity, like a AK. If your in a sparsely populated area, a SKS may be better suited, a tad more accuracy for hunting and longer shots on zombies.

One gun should never be a option, a side arm And a battle rifle are the bare minimum you need... And enough practice to be efficient with Both. Add a short barreled shotgun for Close Quarters, and a precision scoped rifle for long range.... and 10 - 20 more that may be if use :) We really have No idea what situation may arise, if Any that would require us to use our arms.. so Prepare for Any you can think of.

I don't believe in having semi auto's....sort of had my fill of them when in service/combat. Thus, I stick to the most politically correct rifle one can have without drawing any unwanted attention. Marlin 336 in .30-30. I've taken grouse to moose with it and can take man if the need arises.

Ace is correct. You really have to know what the situation is that you will be facing. What happened to cause you to leave and how long are you going to be gone. If you currently live in the country, on your own 20 acre farm or ranch, have a natural gas well and a generator, a years supply of MRE's 20 different guns, ammo, water, etc. Why leave unless it is a hurricane or some good reason to leave, then okay, but then where are you going? You can't drive 300 miles away and stay in a motel pulling a trailer full of guns and ammo. Of I guess you can but then you would have to sleep in the trailer to protect your property. Bottom line, your bug out gun is the gun you carry with you every ordinary day. The one you are used to and comfortable with. Hopefully it is a 40 or better and keep an ammo can in the trunk with as much ammo as you can fit in it and a small cleaning kit for it. On second thought, a good old .30 M1 Carbine in the truck would be a nice addition, especially for Zombies, but any good rifle with a high capacity magazine would do nicely. AK-47 would be a better choice than the M1 Carbine, but like someone said earlier, IT DO ATTRACT SOME STARES anytime you have it out in public where the 30 M1 only makes you look like a Antique Collector.

i use a M&P .40, 18'' rem. 870, and a SKS w/ tapco stock and chopped at 16.5''. the sks has 3-4'' groups at 150ish yards. i'v taken thies firearms on many many camping trips in harsh territories. Served me well. had an AR but it just needs too much attintion in a bug out/shtf shtf situation.

I use a Winchester 94 ranger in 30-30, but I'd rather go out and buy an Ak when I get the money. Drops deer and hog at 100 yards in their tracks, and I shoot without a scope.

Other current guns are a Remington 870 express shotgun and a Taurus PT1911 .45

Short Term Bug Out...A Good Self-Dense Handgun that is capable of taking out your foe with one shot. I prefer the 40S&W Kel-Tec because it is small enough to conceal, accurate within 15 yards and powerful enough to take a man out with one shot.

Long Term Bug Out...My AK-47 for combat, my Mossberg 500 20 Ga. with 2 barrels so that I can bag just about any game I need to take and my Colt Combat Commander 45ACP for close encounters.
