Got my rifle and was shown 600 and 800 dollar scopes at the gun store.
I have been doing a lot of research and it is crazy the amount of scopes ther are.

What is really the diff between a 300 and 600 and 1800 dollar scope?

Any suggestions?

Will be hunting from 300 to 400 yard range but if SHTF a good sniper rifle as well.

Thanks

Norcal and Ops inc both make muzzle breaks for big bore rifles that with some good rings and you are halfway to a good rifle. The 300 shoots like a cannon and when some one hears a shot you know its a big bore. The kick is a bit much to shoot more than ten rounds you need a pad and the break.

muzzle breaks

Actually the BOSS SCR comes with the browining so this is OK I done need a muzzle break. I was looking for suggestions and comparisons on a good scope for my rifle..Thanks for the tips...I will get a recoil pad for sure.
Just dont want to spend more than 300 bucks on a scope and was wondering what the real diff was between 300 and 600 dollar scopes.
Thanks in advance.

Fixed versus adjustable

Thanks redrooster.
Question for all though.
I paid $900 for this beauty and was told to get a good scope.
I see fixed scopes either 4x or 6x for prices between $75 and $175.
Do you consider this a good scope?

Would it work for 50 yard shots as well as 450 yard shots?

I know nothing of fixed scopes so bear with me.

Why not a 3 - 9 X 50 adjustable...Why do you like the fixed scope on such a wide range of yardages that will be shot?

Thanks

i have a nikon buckmaster @ 4.5-14 with SF on my model 70 LRH in 300 Win Mag. it's shock proof, water proof, fog proof, and anti glare. if i do my part, the rifles range effectively to hit a man sized piece of paper is about 800 - 900 yards with high end factory ammo in the 180 gr range, add another 200 yards with 150 gr. Effective kill range is probably closer to 600 for deer sized game.

I have a Browning BAR II Safari that someone put a $40 Tasco on. It works but just looks to "Walmart". I like a fixed power scope for quick shots and paralex free shooting. Nothing wrong with a 3-9 I have some on a couple of rifles.

300-400yds is going to be very doable with your Browning 300WM.

If you're not wanting to spend over $300, you have a few options for some decent glass. As someone already stated, you should be alright with the Nikon Buckmaster 4.5-14x50 = $299.95, Vortex Crossfire 4-12x40 = $129.95, Leupold VX-I 4-12x40 = $299.95, & the Bushnell Ellite 3200 3-9x50 = $299.95. These are some of your better scopes FOR THE MONEY!! :thumb:

As SalingH said previously, DON'T SKIMP on RINGS!!! This is sometimes peoples worse problems whn shooting MAGNUM CALIBERS. Warne Rings are good, Burris XTR Rings are good. These are all good buys for your money without spending $150+.

You have gotten some real good advice above. Vortex is new(I'm old) have no experience
with it. I remember when Bushnell was a good scope. Then they became crap. Now I'm hearing they are quality scopes again( I have 2 that are tied to duck decoys as anchor weights. Both over 20 yrs old). I have picked up a couple of the new ones and they look good(the same can be said for Weaver.) SeekHer had a real good reply in another thread. Function is going to determine what scope you need. How close you will be shooting and how far you will be shooting. A .300 win mag is a reach out and touch some one cartridge. For normal hunting a 3x9 will be excellent. I prefer Leupold and Burris. I heartily second the Leopold VXI 3x9 posted earlier. You won't get the clarity that you would with the VXII,III,IIII,or VII but you won't be paying the price either.
