The reason I ask is because I want to keep a battle belt in my set up, and having a large read chest rig or molle plate carrier seems a bit much to me if I ever have to shed layers or ditch part of a kit.

I use a battle belt set for overnight camping trips. They do work great but I've found some help holding it up is mighty appreciated. I have a set of tactical suspenders that of course fit into the d rings on the belt. When I need more pockets. I use a surplus LBV instead. Both help share any load on the belt and allow me to hook my Hennessey and fleece bag to the back. Either one is under $20.

The vests you describe are of a lighter weight material...might not be as durable for heavy use....they are mostly for "Tactical Dress"..range, class, etc..JMO though,,,,you may find one you like..try

I have two vests like that, the one I wear most often is by Filson.

It's a "tin cloth" cotton vest (#10061) called the "Tin Cruiser Vest" --

http://www.filson.com/products/tin-...sProduct=mens/vests-liners&fmetaProduct=1011/

Its great for concealing a handgun during summer months, a fairly lightweight but robust vest.

The other is more like your example, by SigArms --

(it looks like this one, although this one is by 5.11)

Take a look at this site - you'll likely find something that will work for you:

Look into photographers' vests. I have a few from my photog days and they work great for just about any other purposes other than carrying plates.

I bought this vest a couple of months ago from Bass Pro Shop to use for CCW. The material a ripstop cotton/nylon.

I haven't had it long, and since I only keep my wallet, cellphone and keys in the pockets, I can't speak as to how durable it will be.

Hey all,

I'm looking for a brown vest like a 5.11 tactical vest. Not one that's all MOLLE/PALS webbed, but this: http://www.511tactical.com/511-tactical-vest.html

I could probably go with olive or gray/green, but black and khaki are out of my preference range.

anyone use this sort of gear instead of the webbed/bigger/heavier rigs?
I don't know about vests, but if you want brown tactical pants, just buy white ones and lend them to the French.

I wanted to follow up, the 5.11 khaki vest isn't at white/bright as I thought at first. I think it's a suitable one now that I saw it in a bass pro shops.

I've got 2 of them. One black and one tan. I like them both quite a bit but they are pretty hot for the summer months. The black one I've had the longest and I've had to re-stitch one of the pockets on it but other than that it's help up well.
